Wow! What a Treat to Stop here! My Safari Driver Guide told me we were stopping at a Museum on the way to the Serengeti National Park. I was thinking to myself a Museum? What kind of a museum is out in the middle of nowhere? I’m not a big museum person! We’ll blow my socks off! This museum is the Cradle of Humanity! The Leakeys, Lucy , Early archaeological digs still going on! I got a private tour from The Head of the Museum. A super knowledgeable and pleasant fellow! So Glad we stopped here! It was Great! I love archaeology, been reading about it my whole life! What a surprise to find it here in Tanzania!

This is a must see for people interested in the evolution of humans. It's only a 5 minute drive from the main Serengeti road. Even if you only stay for half an hour you will get to see skulls and skeletons from the archaeological digs here.

The Olduvai Gorge or Oldupai Gorge in Tanzania is one of the most important paleoanthropological localities in the world; the many sites exposed by the gorge have proven invaluable in furthering understanding of early human evolution. A steep-sided ravine in the Great Rift Valley that stretches across East Africa, it is about 48 km long, and is located in the eastern Serengeti Plains within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the Olbalbal ward located in Ngorongoro District of Arusha Region, about 45 kilometres (28 miles) from Laetoli, another important archaeological locality of early human occupation. The British/Kenyan paleoanthropologist-archeologist team of Mary and Louis Leakey established excavation and research programs at Olduvai Gorge that achieved great advances in human knowledge and are world-renowned. The site is registered as one of the National Historic Sites of Tanzania.

We had our lunch here and the washroom was absolutely clean and we met a few Masai men’s here.

B. vom Australopithecus und Lucy (in the sky with diamonds) sind natürlich Nachbildungen.
