Awesome state park and trails.

The trails are well marked and have all sorts of skill levels from paved trails to straight up the rocks.

There is also a disc golf course.

Lots of old buildings and the mines are clearly marked.

Don't be afraid to go off trail.

Fantastic area, everything from paved walking paths which tell the history of the area, along with a disc golf course, and steps leading to nowhere, after the houses were removed due to sink holes , lots of history and exploring , highly recommend this area !

Easy to find with direct access to the trails. The restrooms were clean. They also have enough room to change in.

Nice park! We raced the Red Earth Classic there now for two years and the experience has been great both times. We look forward to bike race in Michigan more and more in the future. Trail development is awesome up there and both my son and I love it!

This park was a complete surprise! We came here because I'd heard you could see a mine if you walk to the back of the park. In actuality, if you take the trails back, you can see *tons* of old pit mines, foundations, waste rock piles, and other remnants of the old mining operations and the part of Negaunee that were razed in the 70s. If you take the Old Towne trail (one the of the first spurs you come to off the main trail), you can wander on abandoned streets and sidewalks, walk up steps that no longer lead to homes and businesses, and see foundations from the same. The mines on this trail and others are fenced off, but you can look through the fences and see the old pits. At the Jackson Mine part of the park, there's old equipment you can look at, a gazebo and picnic table, and then a short walk in a spiral up the pit to a short cave (fenced off) that might have been dug to sample what was in the area.

Very nice hike. I recommend you explore the mines while you're there (you're not supposed to but it's really cool. Just don't be rude and litter everywhere).

Fascinating bit of local history! While you're there, walk over to Old Town. Merry Street was interesting. I can't wait to go back and explore some more.

A bit of mining history I didn't know - a deliberately made "ghost town" in my lifetime!
