Don Jose Mexican Grill

Our most recent time wasn't our first, but I finally ordered outside of my go to (chicken nachos, which are also excellent!) We got chicken, beef and steak tacos, as well as a beef taco salad.

Hands down some of the best I've had in awhile! So thankful this place came to Portland! If I lived in town I'd be there daily!

I'm from out of town and my sister and I stopped there for dinner. Great service and food! Super clean and small establishment. Love the mom n pop vibe. I would definitely stop back in if I came back that way.

Excellent food at a good price.
The chips were warm, and the salsa was very good, and I'm kind of picky about my salsa.

The service was amazing. We were seated right away, and our server checked on us multiple times to ask if we needed anything and if everything was good.

I can't wait to go back. If they get their liquor license and make drinks as good as their food, I'm sure w will be there often. It's so nice to have an actual Mexican restaurant right in town!

The service was fantastic, very polite and on top of everything. The place was clean and very pleasantly decorated. The good is very good, isn't my favorite place around. But it is very good. I recommend there blanc cheese and anything with their ground beef I'm betting is really good.
Oh one thing here that I've never seen anywhere else is you get your own dipping cup for salsa.

Food was great as usual. I got my personal favorite carnitas meal and they were delicious. We got tamales for the first time and those were great too. Did take out and everything was perfect. 😎👍🏻

I was Very Impressed impressed with the Food Especially. I am from WA state, visiting here for a bit n decided to have dinner out. Never had Hawaiian fajitas, DELICIOUS. SO MUCH food I could not finish even half of it.
Totally recommend a visit there and enjoy some authentic food.

Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. Gorgeous artwork everywhere you look inside. Spacious seating, a few tables have a view of a river. The freshness of ingredients really made every flavor pop.

We finally had time to give this new restaurant a try, and we were very glad that we did. We did not have to wait very long for dinner on a Sunday evening, around 6:30pm, from greeting to boxing up and heading out it took maybe 25 minutes total, and there were not very many empty tables. The prices are in line with most restaurants right now, the water tastes great, and the atmosphere was fresh and clean. Chips were nice and the salsa, though a bit sweet for my taste, was of a fine consistency and much appreciated while waiting for our food. We had the Don Jose fajitas and the Chicken Chimichanga - both came quickly and were very hot. Not too spicy either. We will definitely be returning the next time we have a craving for Mexican cuisine!

We come here 1-2 times/month to either eat in or get take-out. Everyone loves it (ages 16-53), and the numerous people we've referred have given us positive feedback too. When we're in the mood for Mexican food, we don't even consider going anywhere else.

Best Mexican restaurant around hands down. Huge portions and absolutely delicious. Try their coke if you're into that type of thing. It's awesome.

Our service was amazing. The food was outstanding. The lady who helped us was patient, friendly, and accommodated my family's small talk. Lol

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a few months and I finally did tonight. It was fantastic! Our waitress was extremely polite and efficient!! Food came out fast, hot, and DELICIOUS!! Great prices for the portions! This place has earned a special place in my heart as my favorite Mexican joint!!

Best mexican from GR to Lansing. I’ve been everywhere. Always hot, always fresh and never sloppy. The staff is always polite. Good place for family. Not a sleazy hangout for drunks.

The food was so, so good. Quick and friendly service with a fun environment. Such a little gem in this small Michigan town!

Fabulously delicious!!! I wish we lived closer!! Stopped for lunch on our way home from camping. We will definitely get by again!

I wrote a less than flattering review one year ago, I would like to recant that review with this update. My wife and I enjoyed a great lunch menu and received the best service we've had in quite some time. Thank you, Don Jose's, would recommend to family and friends.

Fantastic food!! Service was outstanding as well. Our family has only been there once, but it was quite impressive. I had the Burrito Don Jose’. It was perfect and probably more than anyone should eat in one sitting….. but somehow, I worked through it 🤣. I ordered extra jalapeños and they brought out some fresh jalapeños grilled and still hot. I was a little too full after my meal, but that’s my fault!!!!

My family and I will definitely be back!!!! Great time and great food!!!!

My wife and i love this place. The food is always fast and hot. I love the 3 Tamali's, and my wife really enjoys the Buritto Don Jose. The salsa is good, but spend a little extra to get the cheese dip with the chips and salsa. It will definitely complient your meal.

I am visiting from Florida and my sister said this was the best Mexican food in town, and boy was she right! We got a seat in the back with a beautiful view of the river and had the sweetest waitress! She was so attentive and kind! I noticed all the other staff seemed really kind and happy too. And the food was AMAZING! I got the chicken nachos and they were so yummy! I could only eat half of it and had another meal for later. Would highly recommend!

Absolutely great authentic style food! Delicious and the staff is super friendly!
