I had the cheeseburger, and it was very tasty. The employees here like what they do and it shows. Plenty of room in the lot out front and available places at the bar and at tables inside and out to dine. Clean bathrooms and cool decorations throughout the restaurant.

Driving by The Red Frog, it looked like the place to go. My friends and I had heard so many good things about it, and it did not disappoint. Even on a Saturday night it wasn't overly busy. It’s definitely a local hangout spot, and you can tell everyone loves it there. The service was great; all the staff were super kind and even happy to make changes to a drink if you wanted. The burgers and fries were delicious—probably the best I’ve had in a while. But honestly, nothing really beats the view from the back deck. You can see the whole area, and it’s just beautiful, especially around sunset. Plus, the decor inside and all over the property is really cool. It’s got this cozy yet lively vibe that makes you want to stay and hang out for hours. If you’re ever in the area and looking for a great place to eat and chill, The Red Frog is definitely the spot.

What a great find! Menu is simple, hot dogs are juicy and delicious, drinks are great, so many things to look at. Going back for a burger next time. Mimosa was the best! The drive in the hills was nice from Marysville, and the weather was perfect to sit outside. You can walk around some and take a look at all the items they decorated the place with. They are rare and really cool. As mentioned before the menu is simple and the prices are great. We usually share but we didn't this time. The atmosphere is more for adults I'd say rather than family with children. Low lighting and natural lighting was nice. I will never forget the 10 inch hot dog though. Plane or supreme we all thought they were delicious. The drinks were not expensive I thought $6. For a Mimosa was pretty good providing the sparkling wine bottle to go with the orange juice was a treat. Make your Mimosa weak or strong, I poured and drank, poured and drank to get that full flavor everytime. :) Gotta visit this place if you are ever going up 174. We ventured out for a bike ride to find a place to eat, and this is the place we will probably visit more often.

Quaint little bar/restaurant just outside Colfax, CA, along hwy 174 as you head towards Rollins Lake and Grass Valley.
Great atmosphere with an outside bar overlooking the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Staff is very attentive and extremely friendly and strive to make sure you enjoy yourself.

Hey Joyce Childs - Your 1-star 'review' was only about your 'service dog' rejection. What kind of motorcycle rider needs a 'service' dog?!? You have a chip on your shoulder - and an emotional problem to boot. Don't blame a quirky (well-liked) mountain pub for their perceived lack of accommodation. If you were blind, you need a service dog - you obviously aren't. Your purse dog is an emotional crutch. You even said you looked up The Red Frog prior to your visit, seeing "horrible reviews regarding service dogs." - yet you STILL went there!
I have left a 5-star review to try to counter your 1-star insult. I have not even been there - was just thinking about it. Now I will.

Joyce child's, what kind of service dog needs to be carried in. My dog is awesome but it's a business and an emotional support pet is not a service dog. Red frog is cool, godspeed

They've got great food, all cooked-to-order. So far, I've had their hot dogs, pizza, garlic fries, and a couple of other offerings. You can't go wrong. Though a bar first, I wouldn't (and haven't) hesitate(d) to drop in for dinner.
Get there while there is still daylight, and you will be rewarded with an incredible view of the hills surrounding Colfax, and if you're lucky, a train snaking its way up (or down) the Sierras.
The decor here is ultra-cool. Upon entry, you will understand why it is aptly named the Red Frog. But look a little closer.... everywhere. I have enjoyed this place several times throughout its years in existence. I recommend you to go give it a try. It will not let you down.

Stopped in for a short visit, this is a popular place. My second time there. I live in Auburn about 15 miles away. I would say this is a great place to kick back and enjoy the view of Cape Horn, and the North Fork of the American Canyon. Cape Hornrepresents a major railroad construction project of the first Transcontinental railroad.
Red frog has friendly bartenders, a large outside patio overlooking the beautiful view.

Cannot comment on the food as we stopped in for a quick drink. Wish we could have stayed longer! Hannah was an amazing hostess/bartender. Probably enjoyed the best sangria i've ever had for only $5!!! Definitely intending a return visit on my next trip up to the summit. Well, maybe my repeat stop every time I'm driving over the summit or on my way home.
