Their sushi is top notch. We tried several places around Charlottesville and end up coming back here time and time again. Very friendly staff! The hibachi is also very good and the chefs are amusing and engaging. Highly recommend!

We had a great first experience for our anniversary dinner. My husband and I had a backup plan that if hibachi was too full, we’d sit at the sushi bar. Well, I was secretly glad to see business doing so well on a Tuesday night… the sushi bar is the way to go!

We had great service, and even more importantly amazing sushi. They have some really creative rolls on the menu and the service was amazing. We will definitely be back!

What I came for: I had a hankering for sushi, but didn’t want to spend too much on it. I also wanted to feel full after eating it for the price I paid. I had never been to Sakura before, but decided to give it a try.

What I Got: Spicy California Roll, Spicy Crunch Shrimp roll, Avocado Roll

My Experience: Highly Recommend.
Overall, I was very impressed with the sushi here. It was made fresh in front of you, very chill ambiance, and safety precautions taken. The restaurant is hibachi-style (think Benihana). They give 8 pieces per roll, which is substantial for the price ($4-$6 per roll), especially compared to other sushi places in the area. 2 rolls is definitely enough to get you full. The spice in both rolls was understated, so if you’re not into spice, it will taste delicious. If you want something with more kick to where you feel the spice, it might not be for you. They give you a nice serving of soy sauce, which you won’t need much of because the taste of the salt really comes through strong.

Tip: I would order ahead for pickup to cut down on the wait time, though.

One thing I’ll always remember about this place was the mushrooms. I’ve never had mushrooms that good before. Whatever the sauce was they cooked them in… perfection.

I love this place! It is a hidden gem that always gives me the best feeling just being there. The sushi is exquisite! Watching the chef cook right in front of us is awesome. You would love it too.

Walked in and immediately seated around 6:30pm which was impressive for dinner hour on a Saturday. Food cooked right in front of you with interaction and tricks is cool. All of the food was really good.

This was our first time and it was delicious. The staff was super friendly and I really appreciate them sharing a birthday song in their culture with the table. The only thing would be is to add a little more seasoning to the protein for more flavor. Other than that, we enjoyed the experience.

Friendly, savvy, humorous staff, wonderful food, and all the tricks you have come to know and love. He kept missing my mouth with the shrimp trebuchet, though.

Another outstanding dinner at Sakura. I’m a regular here and always come for the sushi. The staff is attentive and I never get a bad meal. It can be a little noisy at times because there are quite a few hibachi tables, which are very popular. Highly recommend this place. It serves the best sushi in Charlottesville by far!

GREAT FOOD! They put every party at their own table (for teppanyaki) and the cooks did the cooking at the middle grills where no one was sitting! Got my picky order perfect and brought new drinks before we could get through the current round! Friendly, efficient and delicious!

The food was amazing, it was my first time going and the chef made it worth it . He scared me doing the fake ketchup trick but had all of us laughing at the table , they singed happy birthday to my son and gave him a peace of cheese cake for free which was delicious. They had no problem accommodating the 7 of us , we will definitely be back.

THE BEST HIBACHI FOOD! Tonight we had filet, chicken, shrimp and scallops. We also tried the chicken livers, seasoned perfectly. The mixed vegetables are broccoli, carrots, zucchini, and onions. Everyone was also served lo mein!

This is our go to date night place. Good Asian food is very hard to come by in Charlottesville, and hibachi is even rarer. The owner is very kind and knew us by name. The food was always delicious and satisfied that Asian food craving.
