Frontier Market Japanese Food & Deli

It was our 2nd time visiting Frontier Market for their Wagyu Beef on sale on Saturday afternoon.

We got a couple of bags of beef and the quality was great with reasonable price. Their bento was also delicious with proper portion.

Pleasantly surprised to learn that Frontier Market est. 2018 is the OG location for later Maruichi delis in MA, CT, and NJ. Considerably smaller location compared to the newer generation stores. The little parking space next to the building is near impossible to back out of, so you are better off parking along the road. Bentos and onigiris (if there are any left) are immediately to your left upon entry and, unfortunately, all chilled and not kept warm under heat lamps like the Maruichi locations. The kind cashier lady did direct me to the microwave they offer inside the store. Their Facebook page does a great job of advertising the specials every week, especially fresh meats. Given the small footage of Frontier that's similar to that of other Japanese stores like Daido and Fuji in the area, you will either visit for the uniquely Japanese items or just a fun browse if you happen to be in the area. For a more immersive and productive Asian grocery shopping experience, I would rather visit an H-Mart or cross the river to Mitsuwa NJ.

If you are looking for a smaller Japanese supermarket with great prices, fresh produce and all kinds of miso, soy sauce, tofu and all the kinds of items that you’d find in a larger Japanese grocery store, check out the Frontier Market on Central Avenue in Hartsdale.

My friend Rich Jacobson shared some Sushi he picked up on the way home one day and it was so fresh it blew my mind. Well this is where he "found" it, and this unassuming, easy to miss, specialty store is now my favorite spot for fresh sushi, and sashimi. I can't stress enough to my dear review readers how disappointing it is to bite into other sushi and discover old or hard rice (very common), never mind unfresh fish. This little spot is my new go-to for my weekly sushi craving and they have other uniquely Japanese foods & snacks.

A great Japanese theme grocery store with tons of Japanese options, meats, foods veggies and stuff to take home.

The absolute go-to Japanese market for quality beef. Great veggie and seafood options available at reasonable prices. Standard Japanese grocery store items are also available for purchase, from boxed and wrapped food items to school supplies. Japanese cutlery, including some high-quality chef knives, also available for purchase. Store is always clean and well lit, with friendly and welcoming staff. Parking can be rough.

Clean and uncrowded. Onigiri selection is minimal at the end of the day but half off! And I got many yokan.

Frontier Market has a lovely display case of Japanese-made knives and accessories imported by KORIN. They also have a professional knife sharpening and repair service for very reasonable rates. I found the staff most welcoming and very attentive in helping me select a knife. The prepared food is also top notch! I will definitely be back.

You wouldn’t expect a Japanese food market & deli… or a Japanese convenience store-style (コンビニ) corner shop in Scarsdale… but step into Frontier Market and you’ll believe it’s pretty nice where you can get products from the far east not commonly found. If you’re just looking for quick meals, there are a bunch of 弁当 (bento) and fresh produce that greet you upon entry. Walking around the small but plentiful store, you’ll find more foods, freshly prepared seafood, necessities and stuff for the kitchen primarily from Japan and from other East Asian countries. Most items are fairly priced!

Bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside! Fantastic selection of authentic Japanese foods & kitchen ware. Gotta check out their knives! Cannot miss the taller than me display case. Fish, wagyu beef, vegetables, even breads are always fresh. They pride themselves on quality, and they've plenty of reasons to be proud! Even better are the staff! Knowledgeable, friendly, classic good ole fashioned customer service. In English, Spanish, and (naturally) Japanese as well! It's really hard imagining anyone leaving disappointed.

A wonderful little Japanese specialty grocery store. Everything is moderately priced with food and snacks that would be difficult to get without going to NYC. They have pre-made bento (box lunch), a hot food buffet section, a small bakery, and they offer coffee for customers. Their selection of meat is also good with high quality beef and specialty cuts specifically for Japanese cooking.

We come here for fresh sashimi, beef, pork, and chicken. Excellent quality meat albeit the price is slight higher then others. Also the prepared bento boxes, sashimi bowls, and sushi is as good as you’ll get in the restaurants.

A small Japanese grocery to buy some Japanese food and some goods. They have drinks and fresh food if you're passing by but as well as meat, fish, vegetables etc. Small and clean. Moderately priced but aren't found in everyday grocery stores.

The staff is very helpful, especially a young gentleman by the name of Kevo. We were getting ingredients to make a mille-feuille nabe. The produce was fresh and the meat was well labeled, recently cut and (during these times) exceptionally well priced. Parking is a bit of a hassle but if you're in the area it is a surefire visit.

An unassuming but very well stocked Japanese grocery store! I LOVE their prepared foods; very affordable for the quality. The hamachi scallion sushi and potato salad are my favorite!

Very great prices for meat, and better quality than your average supermarket. They mark down to 25% and 50% in about one/two days.
Small place.

Great grocery store, especially for the meat lovers. You can buy ice beef, pork, and chicken. You can also ask staffs to cut any part of meat, beef tongue, etc.

An improvement from the former very good Nijiya market. Better meats, new specialty bakery. About as good as you'll get without travelling to NJ.
