Stayed at the 72 hour RV park at Port Headland opposite Racecourse - great spot & so accessible to main area - we found it to be clean/rubbish bins/ camp caretaker & the usual rules apply to a free RV stopover - many thanks Port Headland for providing this great venue - VERY much appreciated - will highly recommend to others.

Luckily we could get in here, so we stayed 3 days & saw lots of things, did the twilight bus tour, had a Ports video (couldn't get on the Port), went to staircase to the moon viewing, went to Hotel for lunch & watched a ship leave port, had morning tea at the Dome, shopped at the Emporium, went to the tug boat display, watched the ships, watched the trains, food shopped, washed the car at the carwash... did lots of things!!

Great free camp, must be self contained and have enclosed grey water tank to camp here. Hosts are very nice and friendly. Close to Dump point, potable water at entrance. Dog walking close by and a grassy park next door.

It's free... what's not to like! Stick to the rules and everyone happy.

Tons of room. Bins, potable water and a dump point. Great caretaker. Good on you Port Hedland for providing this service and not forcing people into Caravan parks or bypass the Town all together.

Loved staying here, and I felt privileged to be able to stay for free. Drinking water available, dump point 1km up the road. Lovely children's play area/bike, skateboard park. Public toilet at the playground. Walking distance to a great little shopping centre. Terri, the caretaker, was amazing. So friendly and helpful. We had to extend for 1 night as you can stay for 72 hours in a 28-day period. We had an important part coming for our caravan and just had to sit still and wait. We informed Terri and also emailed the Council for approval. Every town should have a facility like this for travellers, 1. It is just so busy now, August 2023 and 2. To put some funds into the community. Whilst waiting, we purchased a 12k boat from Pilbara boats and bikes, plus a 2nd hand boat loader plus food, hairdresser, alcohol and hardware items. All great for the revenue into the town. Will highly recommend Port Hedland. Thanks for having us. Martitia and Jack from Brisbane.

Perfect for an overnight stay. Allowed 72hours if needed. As long as you are completely self contained. There are toilets in the next field if you don't mind walking or down at local Beach. Fresh Water is available. As well as rubbish bins. Woolies, bottle shop and chicken treat up the road for supplies. We stayed 2 nights on way up North and 1 night on way home. It's clean, quiet and friendly. Plus it's free. It's certainly not fancy but a fantastic spot for a simple stay over.

Great free camp, close to Woollies. Yes, it's on a road, yes it's close to the trains but we didn't mind the noise at all. Potable water available, dump point just up the road, plenty of rubbish bins & supposed to be only for fully-self contained vans & motorhomes (which we are), but saw alot of buckets & folding, washing-ups tubs being used as grey water tanks ...... so, go figure. Would definitely recommend.

Brilliant! Strict rules as far as all grey water to be contained . No washing to be hung out. The caretaker is right on to it but that's his job, We found him very reasonable and helpful. You're only allowed 3 day maximum stay in any 28 day period but pretty good. It's free but the Shire of Hedland are pretty smart. We have been here 2 days and already spent about $500 in town for groceries, spare parts for the car etc and still here for another day or so. Well done Hedland👍

My husband didn't want to stay in Port Hedland, he wanted to drive on even though neither of us have been here before (first time in W.A) I found the Turf club overflow free camp and we stayed last night and will stay tonight and tomorrow. There were 40 caravans this morning. More room than some caravan parks we have stayed at in the first 5 weeks on our lap of Aust. We found a great bakery which we walked to yesterday and went back again today (excellent pies, sausage roll, jam doughnut and fresh bread) Not much in the shopping centre but there is a clean, reasonable priced laundromat out the back near the bakery. The Woolies is small and didn't have a lot of stock or variety when I was in there yesterday and again today but enough to get by. Caretaker at Turf club was nice and helpful when he stopped by yesterday afternoon. A few of us got lost coming in (we turned into the dump point and should have turned earlier) but we are glad we stayed rather than just driving thru without stopping. Saw some sights and did some shopping today so good for local businesses also. Many thanks for a great place to camp.

We couldn’t get any accommodation when we arrived 7.00 pm ... luckily we found this camp ground. Free and lots of other campers.

Just an overnight camping ground. Have to be self contained. Close to shops. Good drinking water at entry to fill your vans. Public toilet as you enter the path to the camping ground.

This is our second visit here, and like our first time in 2018 it is very clean! It's good to see people leaving enough space between vans so it doesn't feel crowded. The caretaker is quite friendly, and he comes around to see that we all follow the guidelines, so it remains open for others to enjoy. No doubt we'll be back someday.

Great place, extremely close to important shops, room for about 40 vans at a guess. Be sure to be self contained, would recommend 15 litre container with lid at a minimum for catching your grey water.
Thank you port hedland council for supplying
