It's a bit unfair to this pub that I only tend to go when the sun comes out and we enjoy the beer garden with fantastic views over the River Tyne.

It is fantastic outside. They've a beer garden immediately outside the pub, and another more recent outside beer garden across the road, closer to the river.

But don't just go here on a sunny day. The bar inside is beautiful too. Old fashioned, friendly and inviting.

The beer, cask and keg, and cider selection is as strong here as in the other Ouseburn pubs. If you're looking for a trail of pubs, the Free Trade should be top of your list.

The best pub we visited on this 4 day trip to Newcastle. We were visiting the UK for 17 days and took a trip up to Newcastle to visit a cousin. Stewart took us to his favorite spots and this one did not disappoint. I had a third pint of the Overnight Oats (9.5%). It was a small hike to get here from the city centre but the view from the beer garden was amazing. On the must visit again list the next time we are in Newcastle.

Great and busy bar on the Ouseburn pub trail. Fantastic selection of real ale, friendly helpful staff and a quirky building full of character. Pretty much everything you could want for a drinking establishment really. Another bonus was the amazing view across the time from the small side window we were sitting next to., wonderful panoramic scene *(Shame about the pole though).

Looks can be deceiving. Went to meet up with some friends and what a treat. I would suggest a traditional style pub with little in the ways of airs and graces, just a welcoming atmosphere with a great feeling. Difficult to put your finger in it but the staff were efficient and happy to see me, I think!

The juke box was an interesting feature as was the curving bar that displayed a wide offering of cask beers, cider and fruit things! Each to their own. Dog friendly with a constant number of humans at the bar I would suggest waiting for the pub quiz on the Wednesday.

Venturing outside 2 very pleasant seating areas with the one across the road offering one of the best views down the quayside in to the city. Top photo opportunity when the sun was setting over the town.

To top off the night there was a mobile pizza van from Scream for Pizza and whilst I did not partake this evening they my fav with the associated restaurant up there. Appears that they offer a beer and pizza combo, match made in heaven.

A definite revisit soon with some more friends.

Where do you start to describe the most perfect pub there could possibly be❓ I’m the only customer in and spoilt for choice selecting a beer whether it be cask or craft, many of which are sourced locally. The regulars are so lucky to have Jarl as a constant choice. Views are absolutely stunning looking westwards down the Tyne towards the city centre.

We have seen this pub from a distance for years but have never been. Decent weather allowed us to make the walk and we found a quite brilliant pub. The staff were very friendly, the beer was excellent and well kept. Next time in Newcastle we will return. Highly recommended.

Excellent Newcastle pub overlooking the Tyne in Byker. Six cask ales on handpump when I last visited including a porter and a stout. Lots of outdoor seating with marvellous views of the Tyne bridges and Newcastle and Gateshead quaysides. Fantastic free jukebox and friendly staff. What more could you ask for?!

A proper little independent pub with the best views of the Tyne, the gateshead eye, and a geordie sunset. The staff are knowledgeable about the different beers, stouts, and ciders.
The pub itself doesn't provide food but they regularly have food truck nights.

one of (if not THE) best place for a booze in Newcastle. Brilliant selection, brilliant staff and a brilliant view up the Tyne. Bring your dog and I will pat him/her.

Top tip - Wednesday night is pizza night featuring 'Scream for Pizza'

Great pub with fantastic view and huge selection of beers and ales, some of which change on a regular basis. I'd recommend visiting on a Wednesday evening to get pizza from Scream for Pizza's van.

Great pub with a fantastic view down the Tyne and with two nice beer gardens.

Inside is old school so do not expect glitz (toilets could do with an update mind).

Staff are friendly and the beers are top class in range and keeping.

Excellent local pub with friendly staff offering a very good selection of beers. It probably hasn't really changed for at least 50 years. There are excellent views along the Tyne towards Newcastle city centre.

Fabulous pub. Extensive selection of ales. Sometimes a little pricey, but we'll kept and presented. No bar food, but understand they do sandwiches/etc from local suppliers. I think pickled eggs too and of course crisps/nuts. Gents loo walls covered in messages/graffiti. I've been coming in for 20 years and it's never changed. Fab atmosphere, clientele and of course staff. Just a very welcoming, usually choc a full venue. Best thing are the 2 beer gardens. 1 has the most awesome view across the Tyne. Love this place.

Last bar on our Ouseburn walk. Matched the other six in all ways, with great beer and super staff. The view from the beer garden however was something else. Wow.
