Small castle worth a visit. Great views of Totnes from the top. Lovely green lawn. Dogs welcome. The man working at the ticket office was knowledgable, chatty and friendly.

Fantastic place to see the history. Although only the ruins can be seen and nothing is inside, you get a great view of Totnes. You heavy to climb 70 odd steps to reach the top bit it is worth it.

One of the best preserved Motte & Bailey Castles I have ever had the pleasure of visiting.
The 11th Century castle is cared for by English Heritage, and little over a 10 minute walk from the railway station.
It is a quiet site offering spectacular views with a traditional giftshop and ticket office at the front.
The gentleman who cares for the site was most informative.

Lovely open space, motte and bailey castle. Not over commercialised. Ticket allowed you to come back through the day. Little gift shop with cold drinks and knowledgeable staff.

Don't expect the walk around inside a castle experience. But views are great and well worth as part of a trip to the town. Guy on the gate was very knowledgeable and friendly

Lovely old medieval castle, but be prepared to walk up the 80 plus steps.
As you climb higher & higher the steps become smaller, especially the steps inside the castle.
Watch your head & duck when climbing the steps inside the castle.
Amazing 360 view from the top of the castle walls overlooking the town, valley & rivers.

Getting there I think is the best part, through little streets & nice little crafty shops. You sort of stumble on to the castle, & it is not what you expect, but if you're interesting in history is good.

Even in the rain, the little Totnes castle delighted my grandsons and me. Wonderful views across Totnes rooftops, probably pretty amazing with better weather. Big steps to get up there. Not suitable for a pushchair though.

Totnes is a quaint historic place, the castle is well worth a look, good views from the walls. Interesting history. You can also sit in the grounds at the bottom of the hill, great place for a picnic.

Pleasant place to visit in a small Devon town that I love to visit for its atmosphere, eating places and walks, including along the river.
The steam train comes here and there are circular boat & train trips for tourists - no wonder it’s popular

Absolutely fantastic place to visit. It's right at the top of the hill near the market. It's English Heritage so you need to book in advance. The attendant is lovely and gives brief tours of the grounds and the bailey. Although a steep climb It's worth the effort for the fantastic views across Totnes and Devon countryside. It's worth walking around the moat, very pretty. The little garden out front is pretty and secluded. Before you leave, pop into the shop for a memento.

Brilliant English Heritage place to visit. Short walk along the high street, many p&d car parks. Looking forward to another visit to Totnes.

Very cool example of a Norman fort. Originally built in 1068, it has gone through a few transformations to what now stands today and was never attacked. Some great views from the upper walls of the keep, and a nice picnic area inside the bailey with some lovely old trees that date back to Victorian times. Well worth a visit. I suggested they do some reenactments which I reckon would draw huge crowds...

A dominant feature in the centre of town yet tucked away off the high Street in the small side streets which are nice to explore. Friendly staff with good information at this smaller yet ancient site which has amazing 360 views across the region and down the river Dart valley from the well kept keep which is great to explore and which despite its size feels like an amphitheatre. Bats, cats and squirrels included with entry fee

Brilliant castle, being a picnic as you can quickly see everything.
You can feel the history seeping from the walls, suggest a walk around the surrounding roads too.
Stunning views around Totnes.
Slightly pricey for what you get tbh.

A fantastic slice of history in the middle of a quaint town. A can't miss spot if you love Medieval history. Very kind shop service as well.

By definition, a castle should have some sort of a tower or fortified building, a moat and bailey. Totnes Castle has all three. Had a lovely personal tour. It was not much to look at but if you learn the history, it is fascinating to be in or step on the same place that great people from the past have been in.

If you're a member of english heritage this is a lovely little castle to visit whilst visiting totnes. But it is small and doesn't take too long to go around. The staff are very knowledgeable about the history of the area aswell.
