Le Chiuse

Le Chiuse is a reference point producer of Brunello on the slopes below the town of Montalcino. The owner, Lorenzo Magnelli, is a descendant of the legendary Biondi-Santi family and this property has been in his family for generations. Lorenzo is a very talented winemaker working with one of the best vineyard sites in the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. I run my own winery in Sonoma County (Flanagan Wines) and I really respect what Lorenzo has done here.

Amazing! We contacted Lorenzo (owner of the winery) and got (on the same day) a world-class wine tour & testing by Valentina. The tour took about an hour and a half and Valentina taught us a lot about the land and how the weather influences the taste of wine. We could see the wine yard , wine cellar and test their Brunello. We ended up buying a bottle of Rosso and looking forward to taste it soon:)

Very welcoming, efficient and friendly staff. Excellent fresh homemade food. Lovely pool excellent view of Mt Etna. Local places are well advised. We would’ ve liked easier access to coffee throughout the day. Loved our holiday, thank and we hope to see you again soon

Delicious wine, absolutely gorgeous vineyard. But most importantly, such kind people. They took care of me after I fell off my bike (just a few metres away from their entrance!) with more than a few scrapes. They were patient and so sweet while I took the time to collect myself, and offered me a first aid kit. Beyond that, the tour was informative, and the winery is just so beautiful from every angle. Wish I could have stayed longer!!!

The winery is small but charming. Lorenzo’s tour and tasting was informative and delicious, teaching about the wine making process.

We had a fantastic tour of the winery by the owner and wine maker. The story of the family land and history of the property made us all fall in love with the wine before we ever tasted it. And once we tasted it, we were hooked. When in the area, you have to put this on your list.

Fantastic Brunello di Montalcino wine, both the standard and Reserva varieties. Friendly and informative cellar tour by Lorenzo, whose family has owned the land for over 200 years. Must-see in the Montalcino area of Siena, Tuscany.

We experienced a wonderful wine tasting, several Brunellos of different age and a Rosso. Beside this an interesting sparkling wine. Very friendly. The vineyard used to be part of the original Biondi Santi farm land way back, so it is a farm with 'a history'.

Beautiful scenery. Elegant style high quality Brunello wines. Friendly family ( from Biondi Santi) winery with deep tradition. Great to stay as base, driving to different nearby as beautiful places for sight seeing.

Ho avuto il piacere di bere il Brunello le Chiuse 2016... colore è rosso rubino al naso è molto ricco di frutta matura con ribes, frutti di bosco e uva sultanina: un vino moderno molto nitido. Incredibile personalità del Sangiovese che si esprime nella sua versione più matura. Corpo pieno, con tannini di frutta. Alla fine si trova anche una punta di liquirizia e bacche essiccate. Da abbinare a carni rosse e selvaggina. Buono buono buono.

Sono Leandro e vengo da Varese. Siamo ancora qui e domani dobbiamo lasciare nostra capella per tornare a casa. Scrivo queste parole sotto la luce di migliaia di stelle sopra mia testa. Stelle che qui ho ritrovato dopo tanti anni.
Faccio fatica a pensare che domani dovrei - per forza - tornare a casa. Durante questi 10 giorni, ho vissuto dei momenti bellissimi, indimenticabili e la cantina Le Chiuse è stato senza dubbio la nostra miglior scelta.
I proprietari sono due persone squisite non solo per la ospitalità ma sopratutto per la loro capacità di coinvolgere. Due persone molto generose nel condividere il loro pezzettino di paradiso, aprendo le porte di quello che posso confermare che sia una perla in mezzo al Brunello. Siamo arrivati, come solito, con poche aspettative (si fa per dire) ma alla fine è stato molto, ma molto di più di quanto potevamo aspettare. Siamo stati accolti, accettati, ricevuti in modo emozionante ma tutto senza nessuna forzatura.
Ci siamo riposati, nel silenzio. Abbiamo praticato sport con le magnifiche caminate e con la bicicletta. Abbiamo mangiato divinamente ed abbiamo fatto lunghe dormite. Mia figlia (14) ha provato pure a meditare!
Ma qui, la regina è l’uva. Non è un vigneto, bensì un giardino con piante di uva. Meravigliosamente lavorata, con cura, amore e sopratutto rispetto. Uva che genera un vino che merita quello che è diventato perché è unico, il Brunello. Le Chiuse è una cantina di grande rispetto e ammirazione. I premi che vedi appesi sulle parte della cantina lo dimostrano. Il vino, be’, non mi permetto di fare nessun commento perché rischio di fare una brutta figura. L’unica cosa che dico è che è senz’altro il più buon vino che ho mai bevuto in vita mia.
In somma, nell’anno del Covid, abbiamo voluto conoscere quel pezzo di Italia che mi piaceva così tanto ed alla fine abbiamo pure vissuto dei momenti indimenticabili in questo posto magnifico. Grazie 1000 a Viola, Giulia, Stella e Lorenzo. Ci torneremmo, chissà? Una vendemmia insieme, Chissà? Per ora ci lasciamo con un augurio di buona vita ed un grazie per tutto.
