Máté Winery

We had a wonderful time at this winery, with a lovely, very educational and private tour by Jessica who was warm and personable! It’s easily accessible by car and the painstakingly organically produced wines are delicious. We were able to try (and buy) from a great and affordable range of vintages with even a couple of surprises. You can see how much Jessica loves the wines and believes in the Mate philosophy. Our loved ones have also loved the wine when we share over meals back home.

Making an appointment was easy and totally worth it. Highly recommend a visit and tasting as many of their wines as you can!

Visited about 10 wineries around Montalcino and enjoyed this tour the most. The scenery and garden are breath taking. On my request Jessica skipped the standard Montalcino/Sangiovese/Brunello talk and went into depth about the history of the winery, the location, the style of the wines and could also answer our questions with a lot of surprising information.
As we were with 8 people the tasting was organized in the garden. We tasted four wines and they are completely my taste. Very happy with the visit and highly recommended.

We read the books by Ferenc Ma’te’ and our visit was better than we imagined. Jessica was an excellent host and personalized our visit with her local knowledge and wine expertise. A beautiful and special place to experience Tuscany.

Wonderful & Informative Wine Tasting (oh, and really nice vino!). I would recommend this 'of the beaten path' and lesser knowing winery without hesitation. Maybe not the best Brunello wine in Montalcino but very good winter and reasonable prices. The tasting was fun and informative even for someone who has done a fair (or a lot) of tasting and knows a bit already. Grounds are beautiful and overall well worth the trip out to taste.

We had a special tour guided by Jessica and it was our first time tasting directly from the barrels. What an experience!
I think it was important that they've welcomed us like friends and it made it even better to learn & taste. Tasted really good and aged wines; even had a chance to hit on wine gone bad (because of the cork) and it was really compelling to compare.
And they did not let us leave empty handed!

Our experience at Máté Winery was the best we had in Tuscany. Peter was not only a knowledgeable host, but also an engaging conversationalist who spoke with a genuine passion for his work. Candace was helpful setting up a reservation on relatively short notice, and Ferenc’s articles on Travel + Leisure helped us find this and many other worthy Tuscan trips. Thanks again to the Máté family for hosting us and for opening our minds to Merlot - we usually stay away from it in the States, but theirs is unique and well worth a try!
