Food was very good. I had the 12oz ribeye. Loved when the train came by. They said the restaurant had 13” brick walls and 8” concrete floors you don’t hear the train coming by the restaurant. Cool.

Loved everything. Wonderful use of the old train Depot. So cool to watch the trains go by. Service was awesome. Server had large tables but was still very attentive to us. First we had the fried pickles which were great and the house made ranch gets 10 stars! (Yes, I judge restaurants by their ranch). :) The chopped steak was wonderful, great flavor, I didn’t even use the gravy! And let’s just say I may have used my fingers to get the last bit of the mashed potatoes from my plate! My husband had the island chicken and said it was really good. The only bad part was that I really wanted dessert but we were tooo full! Next time for sure. Will def be back!

Love the history of the location and the committed preservation of the relics there. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is friendly and homey. The train rolling through ever so often is a nice touch as well. VERY clean. Can't wait to come back!

Excellent food and service. We ate late lunch at 1pm with no wait but only a couple tables were open. I had the Island Mahi Mahi and my wife had the Grilled Shrimp. Both were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sides were great. Blakely was a great waitress. We will definitely be back to try the steaks next. Also loved the atmosphere of an early 1900s train station with trains passing by twice while we were there.

The atmosphere is so very unique and grand, love it.
Our food was good. The rolls were delicious and perfectly made. We stopped in on our way to the Gulf Shores, from Indiana. I was like a giggly child with the coolness of the building and the train going by... until our waitress came, she was very hurried and not friendly. I am still giving 5 stars because I believe the owners just need to remind the waitress to smile and so will most of her customers 😊

My wife and I drove the 30 minutes from Huntsville to check out this place. It is fun, charming and unique. We had the chicken tenders and hamburger steak with green beans, mashed potatoes, fried okra, and Mac and cheese. Everything was perfect. Great comfort food, and the fried pickle chips are to die for. Our waitress, Laurie N treated us like royalty. Enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

Caitlin, sorry if I misspelled the name. She was a fantastic server. Even though I spilled my tea all over my food and myself, the experience was fabulous. The server never once made a big deal about the mess I made nor did the manager. This place is not only very professional but absolutely delicious! The fried pickles were PERFECT and finally found a place with good catfish and okra. Thank you Freight House!

Our party of four stopped at this awesome delightful restaurant on our drive back from Florida on the way to Kentucky. We saw a sign on the highway and it said the Freight House was a top 8 restaurant in Alabama. I have to say I was extremely pleased and pleasantly surprised with the food, staff, decor, location and all the neat pictures and antiques throughout the restaurant. We loved the train theme. Thank you all for a great experience.

We took our 3 kids there(14,12,5) for my 14 yr olds bday last weekend. It was the first time we had ever been. We liked that you could see the train pass while you eat. It was quiet inside and the train was not even a foot from the restaurant. You would think it would be loud because it is so close but it wasn’t. The food was really good and so was the service. If you like steak or burgers they are good. Also, the fettuccine Alfredo and rolls are good. We will definitely go back because it was worth the 1.5 hour drive from our house! Our friends said the cakes are really good also. Next time I will definitely have to try one.

Great local restaurant with really great food and atmosphere! I got the fried catfish fingers which were great, wife got the grilled chicken which was really good. I don’t know of a single thing we had that wasn’t fantastic. As a added bonus kids love it when the trains go by. I took pictures of the latest menu.

Just driving though town and we were hungry so when we went in they asked if we had a reservation? We did not but they found us a table. Just amazing country cooking. Everyone ordered something different and it was all amazing. The service was excellent. I now see why you would need a reservation.

Found this hidden gem by chance, absolutely loved the old train depot and decor. Even had a train fly by within feet of the building and barely felt it, a very unique experience. Had the French Dip Panini and home made chips which were excellent. Will be back next time in town.

We've never been to Hartselle it's about a 30 minute drive from us and I only wanted shave ice. Lol! I thought I can't drive 30 minutes for just shave ice and saw that I had bookmarked Freight House for a future visit so took the kids for lunch and dessert.

We went on a Friday afternoon and were seated immediately. I don't remember who our server was but she was fast. We got our food and drinks in minutes! I though uh oh we got our food so fast it must not be that good, but I was wrong.

My boys got burgers, my daughter got the Alfredo, and I got a Panini with pasta salad. Everything was good, the boys said the burgers were a little dry but still tasted good. It was a little while ago that we ate there so my memory isn't that great but I remember really enjoying our meal. I tried my daughter's Alfredo and it was super cheesy and I love parmesan cheese so I loved it. I think my daughter wished it was more creamy than cheesy.

Oh and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have the "good ice". Yay! I love crunch ice!

Phenomenal upscale dining experience in a unique historic location. My steak was perfectly cooked medium rare, and the service was phenomenal! I took my three sons, who enjoyed the historic railroad station atmosphere along with the artifacts of the past. We had a memorable dinner that they won't soon forget. Perfect atmosphere for a date night out or fancy family dinner. I highly recommend that you check this landmark out.

My mom and I stopped in on a Saturday night...ironically because we got stopped by a train on our way to another restaurant. We were in and out in less than an hour. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. All of the staff is very friendly. Poulett de Normandy is delicious!

First, Roxy provided great service. Delicious food. Best Rueben around. Poulet de Normandy is excellent. Signature pimento cheese served with toasted tortilla chips and sweet chili sauce.

Decorated very nice in old railroad and freight warehouse. Also had a nice fire going in the fireplace with Christmas trees for photo op.
There were 3 freight trains that went by while we were there.

We had the filet and ribeye. We ordered both medium well and they were delicious. The homemade chips and dipping sauce are great too. Great service also.
