The food was incredible, the service was great , and the atmosphere was unbelievably comfortable 👌. I heard about this place, but after a recent
back to Charleston trip , and three meals , I was convinced.
They were the real deal. If you enjoy good food and great service ,this is a must 👌. Hope you find the time and enjoy your
meal as much as we did.

Great local restaurant with delicious food! Was recommended by someone at Boone Hall Plantation. I had Hush-puppies to start. Shrimp and grits for the entree. Bread pudding for dessert. Everything was top notch!

I wanted authentic Southern food where the locals go, which to me guarantees good food - Gillie’s did not disappoint! The best fried clams, coleslaw, fried green tomatoes and calamari!

They have a ‘grandma wall’ dedicated to customer’s grandmothers where customers can bring framed pictures of their grandmothers to hang on the wall.

Great family restaurant!! Popular with the locals... Everything was hot, fresh out of the oven when served. To include the corn bread, which was extremely moist. Get "Gillie" if you can.

This place is absolutely fanfreakintastic! Everything we ate was awesome! The cook time was slow but worth the wait for hot fresh food. I can't say enough good about it. Soooooooo yummy. Definitely try it.

OMG The food was beyond expectations! The scallops were tender, succulent and just a hint of spice. And the Lima beans took me back to my Momma’s kitchen. I will be back. Okra is so lightly breaded and tender. The catfish with crab, crawfish and shrimp over rice was out of this world. I am in a food coma!

I went here Memorial Day Weekend and the service and the food was phenomenal. The staff quickly accommodated our large party of about 20 people. The sweet tea was just the right amount of sweet. I ordered the jambalaya and loved it. It was my first time eating alligator. I highly recommend the spicy jambalaya. The soul rolls were also delish. Everyone in my group enjoyed their food. Most of all, the prices were more than reasonable for the quality of food received.

Great food! My husband got fried oysters and fried scallops with rice and cabbage. I’d got an order of fried shrimp and fried gator tail, with fries. It was so so good! We Weill definitely be coming back! We sat outdoors since it was such a pretty day and the waiters made sure they came and checked on us multiple times!

Be prepared to wait. However, the wait is worth the visit. I suggest the owner invest in a buzzer system to alert customers when a table is available.

Customer service could improve, however. The hostess wasn't personable, but the waitress made up for the less than welcoming greeting.

Overall, the food was phenomenal, and perhaps the best soul food in the city.

Walked in around 3pm on a weekday.. no wait. Went straight to a table. Our waitress was the absolute best waitress. She was sweet, kept our drinks full.. was on top of our every want/need. The owner’s mother even came and talked to us.
Now the food.. absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly.. the coleslaw was just what I was looking for!
Their banana pudding tastes just like my Mammaw’s (Rest her soul)..
I will definitely be back.. they made sure our first experience there would definitely not be our last.
Can’t wait to go back for more!

This was an excellent black owned restaurant that head been around 7 years and had much hospitality, warm welcoming to everyone and plenty of business with great great food. Absolutely the best of southerns best with a twist of seafood. Oh my goodness. Must stop by and visit anytime your in the area. I was loving the Grandma photo wall. I plan to revisit just to get the great food. Live entertainment was great on the outside. Thanks to all the great cooks and employees. When I say good filling portions and great prices well worth the wait.

The food here is always so good and comforting. The gumbo is one of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten in my life— I had it a few months ago and I still think about it often. It was so perfectly rich, fresh, and savory. I’m from Charleston and am an adventurous eater with high standards, and Gillie’s is definitely one of the best restaurants here!! 💚

I traveled from Atlanta to try this restaurant and it too did not disappoint. It was one of many places on my Charleston list to try. We even met the owners. A wonderful sweet married couple that even treated the birthday ladies in our group to a free dessert each...Everything was made fresh to order and came out hot. The wait was not long at all and the atmosphere was so quaint and homey. The seafood was AMAZING! My flounder was the freshest I had ever tasted! And the fried okra, my goodness! I could eat a pound of those. Lol. Our waitress was actually the owner and we never knew til after lunch. This is the kind of black business that I WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT. Thank you guys so much for your genuine hospitality.

Been wanting to try this place for years but never made it a priority. I was craving REAL food and decided it was time to check it out. Everything we ordered was fried but they do have baked options as well! They have gator on the menu which can be pretty hard to find. Especially loved the fried flounder and the fried chicken. You really can't go wrong. Service is top notch, and I loved the pop in visit to our table from the owners uncle. He was so personable and we loved learning a bit more about this place. We ended up ordering the pick three and the fried chicken plate which was more than enough food for four people to eat. we ended up taking two FULL boxes to go after we ate (and we like to eat!) Gillies is a must visit if you're looking for true southern food served with southern hospitality. A++

This place is amazing, we were visiting from out of town and came across this restaurant on tik tok & I am so glad we did ! The food was indescribable, you definitely receive more food than what you pay for! I was stuffed when I left. The owners and staff are super friendly and will hold a conversation with you to make you smile and get to know you a bit, We enjoyed and will definitely be back !

This was my husband and I first time visiting this place on Saturday, February 5. Granted we have seen the Moonshiners low country cook off show, which they won. Therefore it was a must try restaurant. Needless to say we was not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and amazing. It should be a sin for food to taste that good. Oh my goodness the cornbread is to die for, it is extremely fluffy and full of flavor and so delicious. I could eat the cornbread a lone. All desserts are homemade, we got the banana pudding. My advice get 2. The soul food egg roll, be prepared for your taste buds to experience what outstanding food really is 😊. I can go on and on. My advice is try it for yourself, you will not regret it. I promise.
