Taqueria El Jalapeño

Sat immediately, smelled delicious soon as you open the restaurant door. We knew what we wanted pretty much off the bat, both ordered the two chimichanga meal (one steak, one pork, both sensational). The food came, quite literally, within 7 minutes. I wish Milwaukee could do this!

I probably had one of the best shrimp cocktails I've had in a long time. Great service and bright interior. Easy parking and great food.

Food was very good, but the atmosphere was amazing! It was very authentic to mexican culture and looked so nice and cute!

We went here on a whim because they were one of the few sit-down restaurants that serve food after 9pm. We were able to be seated immediately and served promptly.

The booths are HUGE and very comfortably fit 3-4 adults on each side. Each table/booth is unique with beautiful designs and bright colors (see photos).

They have a smaller menu but they do great with all the dishes offered. This menu specifically has the most traditional/authentic Mexican dishes of any of the restaurants in the area.

Their chips and salsa are delicious. You are served a mild red salsa with a bottle of spicy salsa to add if you so choose.

We ordered the Chicken Enchilada dinner and 3 tacos al a carte (pescado, camarón and al pastor) with a side of rice and beans.

The food was satiating and satisfying. My partner specifically could not stop raving about the al pastor taco. They said it was the best they've had and would get that next time we come.

If you want to save some money, bring cash because they charge a $1 fee for using credit/debit cards.

There are not many options for vegtarians on the menu so I would not recommend this restaurant if you require those dietary needs.

There is plenty of parking in the free parking lot outside the restaurant. They also have a great take-out system.

This place always comes in clutch whenever I need a late night Tex-Mex meal. The restaurant service and staff are very friendly, atmosphere is quaint and relaxing, and the food quality is exactly what I need as an out of state Texas boy. It's hard to find good Mexican food in Madison coming from Texas, but the flavors here do the job for me; just good enough that I can legitimately enjoy it. The only recommendation I would make is just to expand the menu since there seems to be more limited options at this place, but overall they do a great job!

Just another hidden gem on Midvale/Verona tucked close by the overpass to get on the beltline. There are a string of wonderful Hispanic businesses, I got my haircut at Flor Salon(another 5/5 establishment) and walked up the stairs and entered The Jalapeno, basically I'm in heaven! You need a haircut? Go to the salon and then celebrate your new look with some great “real” Mexican cuisine!

We absolutely loved the food at Taqueria El Jalapeño. My boyfriend got Tilapia Frita & I got the lunch Gordita special with Al Pastor! Both were at our table within 5 minutes! We literally just stumbled upon this place when visiting Madison and we spent an hour in the parking lot searching for our lunch before we went inside. It was perfect, the prices were perfect and the food was top notch! :) I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a great authentic Mexican meal!

The decor is very colorful and consists of some of the most unique furniture I've seen in a restaurant. The food was reasonably priced and great quality. We got the tacos and Fajitas, both of which were very filling and delicious. This is somewhere we are planning on returning for more.

Love this place! The staff is so nice and the food is so good!!! Some of the most authentic Mexican food I've ever had! The food is so well priced and honestly for the portions they give, I would pay more. The meat is fresh and tasty. My go to is the Suizo burrito with shredded pork, although the chicken is also really good. I've only ever gotten takeout but the dining room looks so cute with the Mexican themed decor, I can't wait to eat in some day soon!

My favorite mexican place in Madison. Everything I've had here has been great and authentic. If only I lived a bit closer.

I went to this restaurant while I am in Madison and the staff were so nice kind and they explained to us their menu and they have veggies options , we ordered shrimp and burger and was so delicious and good 😊 I highly recommended it especially for Latin American people

Probably my favorite mexican in town right now because the food is cheap and delicious. Lots of variety for tacos and they are served warm with onions and cilantro, which is how it should be. The lengua was very soft - though could use more searing.

My daughter and her father and I love coming here. You should see the furniture, the tables and chairs. They are works of art! And the food is amazing. Because my daughter's father is Mexican, we have hit a lot of Mexican restaurants throughout the years and throughout many towns and cities, and this is the best one by far.

I've only had takeout from here. Their tacos are top-notch, very authentic and delicious. Don't be afraid to try some of the organ meat tacos, the liver taco and the tongue taco I tried were really good. Also, their chicken fajitas are super good. Sadly their steak dishes aren't as good, it's usually a bit overcooked and dry. Especially don't try the Milanese, it was basically inedible, that's how overcooked it was. But you should be good with anything that's not beef. I hope to visit in person some day, I'm sure it's even better than their takeout!
