The Brown Barrel

I had a great first experience here. The burger was very good as were the fries, and I thought reasonably priced. There was a lot on the menu that interested, and there were a lot of toppings to choose from for the burger. The basics are included, and there are premium toppings to build your own. Fries were included and they were the perfect texture for fries. We also got fried mushrooms, they were really good although they probably could have cooked a little longer we ate them all. Also had raspberry cheesecake and it was good. There are some more expensive dinners under the Blind Harry’s section but there are plenty of cheaper options under the sandwiches and burgers, as well as the “small plates” (from what I saw they weren’t small). We will be back here again to try a few more dishes from the menu.

The food is delicious and good portions sizes. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Great little restaurant to keep with the vibe of downtown.

So while staying in Frankfort, KY to go to Buffalo Trace Distillery, we were ready for dinner but couldn’t decide. I tend to be the indecisive one. So my husband decided to drive downtown, which was a walk from our hotel, but my feet were hurting from all the walking. He pulled into the first restaurant parking lot we came to. To our surprise….it was a great choice. We sat on the bar side, there’s a restaurant side as well. My husband ordered the Fish & Chips…for not being a seafood restaurant, the cod was DELICIOUS! Perfect! The salad was also a winner. Definitely recommend if you’re in town visiting.

I've been here about 5 or 6 times with my wife now and also brought my family two or three of those times. I would have to say this is a hidden fantastic gym in Frankfort. Every time I've been the service the food and everything has been fantastic and has highly impressed me. I actually look forward to coming here now and can't wait until the next time. I've tried food dishes that I would never try anywhere else in a million years at this restaurant and actually enjoyed them here.

I came here a few months ago with a local organization, and this was the ONLY restaurant in town that would allow us to make a reservation for a large number of people. I have been craving to come back here, and FINALLY was blessed due to a canceled training.
I eat at in many cities, restaurants, and states. This restaurant is at the TOP of the list and deserves to be featured on TV.
All food, sauces, dressings are from scratch and made with such talent. They need to get the credit that is deserved.
I drove 2 1/2 hours to a meeting in Richmond, KY that was canceled. Instead of a negative it turned into a positive. Today I was able to enjoy their Spinach salad with salmon, a spicy bloody bacon Mary (reminded me of Louisiana), and a bread pudding with sweet whiskey sauce. My taste buds are in Heaven!!
This is a hidden stop for an foodies pallet. I cannot wait to return. Madelyn was my waitress and gave the attentive service.

Really good food and drinks, but I wouldn't necessarily call it "fine dining."
My husband loved the chicken ravioli. I had the club sandwich and fries, which was also really good.

Whole menu sounded amazing. So I Had the waitress bring me “the most popular dish”. Chicken and ravioli she brought . It was amazing! Best Bloody Mary . Calamari was delish . Everything we ordered was so good. Very fast service even tho every table was full! Highly recommend

My husband and I went to dine in. We had onion ring appetizer. The “nasty” sauce was unique. The beef skewers are excellent! The sauce they use and the potato that comes with is divine. Hubs had sirloin steak that was so flavorful he didn’t use sauce. The Kentucky margarita is the best margarita I have had in a while. The service was spot on!

My daughter has a peanut allergy and all staff were extremely careful about making sure that she could eat safely. The food, from fried shrimp to fish and chips to the house salad, was excellent. Our server, Madison, was attentive and helpful throughout the meal, even noticing how much my daughter likes lemon wedges and and giving her a cup of them to take with her. The prices were reasonable (we all ate for less than $50 before tip) and having a good view of the baseball game that was on was a nice bonus. I recommend this place to anybody who finds themselves hungry in downtown Frankfort.

We were staying at a local Hotel in Frankfort, attending the 2024 Kentucky Oaks and Derby, 13 family members total. The restaurant staff located us in a corner at 2 tables. The food, expansive menu, drinks, and atmosphere all contributed to a wonderful experience for us all! Our server, Abby, did an outstanding job and took care of our every need! She should be recognized by management! A great start to a memorable weekend of activities! Thank you for a great evening!

The best part of when we went was the service. The young lady Mariah was very attentive and polite. Such a sweet young lady. The fish was amazing as well as the pesto chicken sandwich that my husband ordered. I got the fried green tomatoes.

Had a great lunch at The Brown Barrel! The food selection was surprisingly diverse. I had the Grouper Fingers and they were great! My friends' food looked equally delicious as well. The food we had was great and served hot and fast. Service was great and very friendly. The environment was very comfortable and appealing. It definitely invites you in and you find you want to stay, hang around, and chat with friends. It's a nice eatery alternative to add to Frankfort that we most definitely needed!

I was there for my first visit. The waiter, MJ, was excellent! He was friendly and professional. The food was delicious. I got the Kentucky Hot Brown with mashed potatoes. Oh that is so good! The serving sizes are big. I couldn't eat all of it. There's enough left over for another meal. The restaurant itself is comfortable and inviting. I don't normally enjoy myself at a first visit but I really enjoyed my meal.

I was there for lunch with my service group and the server MJ was so AWESOME. He made sure that everyone was taken care of at all times. I had the rib eye steak and sides and the steak and sides were very yummy. I also had a piece of raspberry white chocolate cheesecake for my birthday and it was so very tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone coming to Frankfort.

We stopped by for lunch as a pause to our trip down the Bourbon trial. The food was delicious and service was great. They have a long list of bourbons and plenty of other cocktails as well. I definitely suggest trying this place out.

MJ helped us out tonight. He was a fantastic server and the food was great. I got a burger and a “side” of tots that was big enough to be a full meal by itself! Highly recommend. Planning to get a shirt that says “Show us your tots!”

Stopped by for lunch and sat at the bar. The bartender, Kasey was fantastic! She was so friendly and inviting. Even recommended where I could buy a bottle of bourbon.
I had a KY margarita and it paired nicely with my grilled burger!

The sandwiches were delicious, fresh bread and great portions. The sides were great as well. Very attentive service and honestly the bourbon pours and prices were the best we had in Kentucky let alone Frankfort. Must see establishment if youre in downtown Frankfort.

Stopped in for dinner recently and had a great first-time experience. Have visited the BB in Midway several times and this one does not disappoint. Our server MJ was helpful, attentive and very professional. The blue cheese burger was delicious. The BB should give Cliffside Diner serious competition for best burger in Frankfort.

This restaurant is a great addition to downtown Frankfort. The service is fantastic! (And a special shout out to Abby for her great service over Derby!) If you’re coming in for the first time, I recommend the loaded Brown Barrel tots and the mushrooms as apps (yummm!) Great location, super convenient to bourbon distilleries, and set in the charm of downtown Frankfort.
