Funkatronic Rex - Games & More

Stopped by right after they opened on a Thursday, took a look around, took some pictures, talked to one of the people working, they don't charge you to play at their store which is pretty neat - so you can grab some friends and come here and play board games or trading card games and have a good time without breaking the bank.

Looks like they have an active calendar with gaming events and have a wide array of things to do for the space they have. I'd recommend stopping by and checking it out.

Had an amazing experience with Mike and Michael today! They had fabulous recommendations for family games (6 players). They also wowed my out of town guests with their knowledge of battletech, with long conversations that were honestly over my head but my guests loved.

Amazing customer service, they clearly love what they do. I will be back!

My family and I are visiting the Phoenix area with some friends who live in the area. We went looking for a board game shop and found this amazing place! Mike and Michael helped us in a way that harkens back to true customer service! Super knowledgeable, and able to help us find a few games that fit what we were looking for. Then I found the Battletech stuff they had in stock... I was able to completely nerd out with the owner, over the shared love of these games. I cannot speak highly enough of the store, and the 2 gentlemen working there! Just an overall awesome experience and Ill definately be making the journey again!

I finally have some time to write a review for Funkatronix Rex. This is a great place for buying and playing table top games with an inviting non pretencious attitude surrounding it. Wether your into role playing games or in depth table top games there is proably something here for you. People that work there are passionate about what they do and are very inclusive of everyone. Its cool that they are nice people, but as a small business owner myself its also just good business sense to have a humble knowledgeable approach to running a gaming store like this. I hope they succeed long term and keep the attitude of a small business that cares about the newby players as much as the ones that could be game masters. Its a nerds paradise as well as inviting to thr public a in general who might just want to buy a cool game for friends and family. Since l'm an original nerd from back to the 80's Advanced Dungeons and Dragons days this place and thier staff make me feel right at home.

Want to play Magic? Warhammer? This is the place to go with an equally fun and welcoming community who are always willing to help you learn! Were super patient when teaching all the mechanics of Warhammer, with people there who just want to engage and have fun!

Started coming here every day to chill and play mtg back in high school with my friends and it is some of the best memories I’ve had. Great selection of games and lots of fun people willing to play.

This place feels like a home away from home for me. I've always been into wargaming and D&D, but I just assumed they were niche hobbies with small communities. Visiting Funkatronic Rex proved to me that they were larger and more welcoming than I could have imagined. The staff are some of the friendliest people you will meet at any store, and the people who shop there regularly are kind and supportive, and always down to play a game. I highly recommend this store to anyone looking for a place to enjoy their hobbies, or even discover new ones.

Stumbled into Funkatronic Rex after picking up food nearby. Was immediately impressed with the Owner’s enthusiasm and passion for games. The store is broken down into various sections and includes a wide variety of puzzles, miniatures, boardgames, card games, and role-playing games. The store also has a number of accessories for miniatures, collectors, and gaming enthusiasts.

After spending almost an hour browsing the store and its immense collection, we purchased a number of games for our ever expanding collection. Unfortunately due to Covid-19, we were not able to enjoy the play-before-you-pay experience or participate in Funkatronic’s Friday game night. However, we are very much looking forward to returning when things get back to normal and joining this wonderful gaming community.

Visiting from out of town and needed a game to play. Not only did they allow us to try out a game from their library to see if we like it, they sold it to us as they were out of stock. Super friendly staff and great gaming atmosphere. Would 100% recommend, even if it's a bit of a drive for you!

Everyone here is friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve played commander with both Alex (one of the shop’s managers) and Mike (the shops owner). They can’t always sit down and play but they will always try and make sure if you want to and there’s somewhere to play that you are able. Great store, great people, and great atmosphere.

Great store! Mike was super helpful and let our children play LEGO while we looked at games. Got to check out open games from his collection to see if we would like the one we bought! Friendly, awesome place to buy and play games. Check it out!

I have been to other gaming store and I can say I love this one the most. I mainly play mtg, and collect/play a little bit of warhammer, and those seem like the games you can find someone to play with often. This is a great place for new and casual players alike to come down and play, every player is ever inviting, friendly, and helpful when you play even in their disadvantage. After playing here a couple of times, I can say without a doubt that I would rather play here than anywhere else.

Two months ago I decided to get back into Magic the Gathering after selling my collection many years ago. I heard about this place from a friend who bough a condo nearby, and decided to check it out. In the 3 decades that I have been involved in the gaming community I can truly say that the owner of this store and all associates I have interacted with have always gone above and beyond in connecting with me, making card and commander recommendations, and going out of their way to take the time to ensure I have with all the cards I need. Every time I go into the store I'm always seeing people playing Commander, miniatures, and D&D Campaigns which does not surprise me at all. They have created a wonderful culture and community, and they are now my first place I go when I need something for my gaming group. Thank you for all you do for our AZ Gaming Community!

This store is fantastic and it's the staff that makes it that way. Prices are decent and in line with what you'd expect, but the employees make this place truly great.

I used to play MTG, but haven't in almost 12 years. I recently wanted to get back into it and Alex made that incredibly easy. Helped me pick out new products to get me started, answered all of my dumb questions, and even ran through a quick game with me and my friend to show us the ropes of the new preferred play style.

My only complaint is the beverage fridge could be a little better stocked and a little colder, but that's really it. Even then, it's not that bad and the drinks are reasonably priced.

Overall, this store is great. Everyone, including other customers, have been very welcoming. Which is not how it was with MTG back in the day. Keep up the great work and you will have certainly gained a new customer for life!

Teen friendly, great games, fun vibes, and awesome staff.

Stopped in sporadically over a 2 week period. The staff was amazing, friendly, and inviting everytime. The regulars were welcoming as well. Played my first game of commander in person with an awesome pod on Monday and I'm hooked. Excellent environment being cultivated here!
