This is a small self-contained cottage standing approximately 900 feet above the village of Llanberis in Gwynedd on the North West approaches to Snowdonia. The cottage and adjoining buildings have been extensively converted to provide basic accommodating for groups of up to 16 in number

Cheaper than camping at only £5 per person and you get the entire house to yourselves!

Great place to sleep in a storm. A place to feel your true surroundings, basic but awesome

We've been coming here for years and will continue to do so for many more to come.

Superb location to get away. The accommodation is very basic, but it has everything you need to cater for groups, including two toilets and two showers. There's heating in the cottage and also a drying room.

As long as you're not expecting anything plush, then this place is ideal.

Thank you Ty Mawn.

4 star bunk house, fully equipped kitchen. Two bunk rooms sleeps up to 16 on covered mattresses. No vehicle access so have to carry stuff from parking 1/2 mile away.

We booked Ty Mawn bunkhouse for a group of ten at the end of July. The house is simple, sweet and beautiful, but a fairly tough ten minute walk from the car park. (Parking for 3-4 cars.)

On arrival there was no running water in the ablutions block (two toilets, two showers & a drying room); and at the time of writing this Ty Mawn does not have safe drinking water.

However, we managed to flush the toilets by filling up the cisterns using buckets of water collected from two water butts outside. After some skillful tinkering the water eventually started flowing, so it may have been a blockage.

Although this (& the rain) did make a poor first impression, the rural charm of Ty Mawn soon won us over.

The beds were very comfortable and the heaters worked a treat despite the cold outside.

When the weather cleared, we were able to walk into town within 30-40 minutes. We spent time walking, visiting local museums and a castle, as well as watching the sheep being herded. They surround the house and are an absolute pleasure to watch if like us, you are an animal lover. We would recommend bringing binoculars as the views are amazing. It truly is a stunning area.

The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, cooking utensils etc, but we would recommend bringing a clean tea towel. There were plenty of cleaning supplies, and a washing line and drying room for when you inevitably get caught in the rain.

The bunkhouse is run and cared for by volunteers, so it remains basic and simple - which has its charm. You will not get a comfy seat, hot shower or indoor loo, but for the price and views we would recommend Ty Mawn.

Me and my fellow pupils have had a very tough week. After climbing two mountains we expected a very welcoming, relaxing environment. This was not the case. I am not happy. I’ve never been more appalled. Two toilets (outside by the way) for over 15 pupils just does not make the cut. The showers had several spiders and woodlouse coming out drain when having a shower, and to top it all off the 0.5 mile walk from the house to the car park was not negotiable. I would not recommend this accommodation. The bunk beds were not safe and we had someone falling off their bed during the night, luckily there were no injuries. However the morning views were very pleasant but not much else was acceptable.

The other reviews I've seen here are quite correct. The location is fantastic. The surroundings are beautiful.. Access to walks is perfect. But the accommodation is budget and to me falls below standard. The water in the house is from a small stream that dried up when we were there (mid May... I've just returned). We therefore ran out of running water for a group of 14. This is when it's been raining on and off for a while

But also the mould on the walls is a serious point that is not negotiable. The damp was noticeable everywhere.

These two things are deal breakers for me. We stayed there Friday and Saturday night but cut the last night following the lack of water and lost the last day in the mountain.

Also it should be noted that the car park is on a track that is around a 1km walk to the house. It's the only access as the campsite below is not related to the house.

Masses of potential Maybe ok for some. Not for me.
