Lovely musuem, rich in local history that is free to enter! We particularly enjoyed the slate demonstration and loved the fact that the guy doing this was fourth (I think!) generation of slate miners so had loads of knowledge and hilarious stories to tell. My husband also loved the machine shop and tried to convince me that he needed one of the big lathes (absolutely not!). We spent around three hours here, but would have been longer if it wasn't raining!

Fab museum lots to see. Lovely surroundings too. Well laid out museum. Good videos and nice in person demo of how to slice slate and the tools they use. Nice to see the workers terraces rebuilt as they would have through time.
Lovely cafe and nice gift shop too.
Can't believe its a free museum.
Easy to park and lots to see around the museum too like the railway and walks by the water.

Brilliant place to visit the surrounding views are amazing. Very interesting insight on what life was like. We loved visiting the houses and the blacksmith demonstration. Loved the smell in some of the work spaces if brought me back to when I would watch my grandad work in his work shed. There's a little play area for the kids and a cafe with baby changing facilities. I can't believe it's free to visit too!

One of the most interesting experience and undervalued things to do in North Wales.
Being a free museum, I expected a small and not so attractive museum, but it surprised me and was one of the most interesting experiences.
The flow is excellent, the information good, the representation also. It was pretty big and has lots of interest zone.
If you are into it you can easily spend half a day in there.
From time to time, there are free shows with live demonstrations with cutting slates, making an iron spoon etc.
The shop is also very nice and you can find there nice souvenirs (which I didn't see anywhere else)

It's a good day out for the family with plenty to do in the museum and in the surrounding area.
Entry to the museum is free so you can't argue with that. The staff are nice and friendly and very informative. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Spent a slightly damp hour or so here.
Dog friendly in about 50% of the site.
Interesting 18 minute film about slate mining and a 5 minute demonstration of slate splitting and dressing.
Cafe served delicious pasties, sausage roll, soup and sandwiches.

Great museum learning the history. We would of like to see staff we could of interacted with to ask questions our children had, but other than that it was nice. We had hot drinks in the cafe and welsh cakes, which were delicious. The ladies running the cafe are lovely and bubbly characters. We bought some welsh slate to create something unique with at home for £2!

Great place. Friendly staff. Good café. Really interesting displays. You get to see a live demonstration of slate cutting and can see everything as it was back in the day in the
huge workshops. The big water wheel is impressive as well.

Everyone should visit here. Such a great site to visit for free.
All the old equipment and stories of the men/women who worked in the industry and good to hear and understand the heritage.
John was so informative when demonstrating splitting the slat and knew his stuff!

Slate mines are one of my favourite places of Wales. The industry is forgotten, mines are free to visit and mostly quiet. Llanberis has a lot to offer. (Pull out Excalibur, water sports, ruins, Snowdon...)

Took a ride on the slate train (8pds.) and then visited the museum. The museum is well organized and laid out. We visited the superintendent's house and watched a video describing the work and production of the miners. The water wheel was extraordinary!

Went on Bounce Below with family. It was fantastic. Very cold but still, North Wales in November only to be expected. It was an experience just to go down the stone tunnels into the massive cavern that the nets are in. If you're very tall you may have to stoop on the walk through. I was very proud because I'm not best keen on heights so took a bit of courage to get on but was soon jumping and running in them with joy. Youngest of our group was 3 and the oldest 56, all had a great time and also when we came out we had such a good workout that we didn't feel the cold at all.

What a great place and free admission although they suggest a donation and you really should because its well worth it. Its really interesting and suitable for all ages. Great that they're preserving their industrial heritage in this way. (we come from a coal mining town and our museum got closed). The staff are very friendly and helpful (no sign of any anti-english sentiment here). Great that it's dog friendly too although with some reasonable exceptions to certain areas. Lovely cafe serving great food/snacks ( Welsh lamb and mint pasty- yum!).
If you're in the area, can't think why you wouldn't visit.
Diolch yn fawr to all at NSM 👍

Very interesting and extremely well presented. The introductory film certainly whets your appetite for the rest of the museum exhibits. Makes you realize just how hard and dangerous the work was.
