It was a hot and sunny day when we visited this attraction. A welcome cool surrounding awaited under the mountain! Fascinating and interesting location. Coach takes you to the location with a guide to inform on all the relevant facts a little walking once inside to see the machinery etc. An engineer's pleasure. Well worth an hour of your time to see and a reasonable price. Recommended

Excellect tour, well worth the visit.
Tours have to be booked in advance unfortunately, but easily done online the night before.
Would have liked to have got closer to the action at times, and see some whirling turbines up close. When we visited it was during a maintenance period, and what we saw was in a state of repair, but still interesting never the less.
Thoroughly enjoyed by all the family, Jan the tour guide was superb !

The Visitor Centre is on the A486, about 1.4km from the Dinorwig Hydro Power Station, which is within a tunnel deep under the mountains. The Centre's setting itself is very attractive with the mountains as the backdrop. Visitors are taken by coach into the tunnel.

First thing to do is to book tickets at the Centre. There's a decent restaurant where one could have something to eat or drink while waiting. If you have a longer wait, I would advise paying a visit to the National Slate Museum which is 950 metres away. It's free and could be an eye-opener.

The power station is a great engineering feat. Off-peak electricity is used to pump water from the lake at ground-level into a reservoir at the top of the mountain. The water is then released at times of high demand to generate power.

Mobiles phones, hand bags, rucksacks etc are not allowed. Lockers are provided at reception. The 45-minute tour is interestingly presented by the tour guide. You'll come out knowing where the blast of energy for the nation's cuppa is coming from.

A really interesting amazing trip about this hidden, important power station. Inside is apsolutely amazing with so many contraptions and things working right I'm front of your eyes! Unfortunately you cannot bring cameras and bags but believe me, it is a brilliant experience. Our tour-guide was really friendly and was open to any questions asked. It's simply amazing and a lot of it can't be explained in a Google maps review! The center leads up to the main tour so is slightly lacking although they do have a great video flying over Snowdon!

Definitely worth a trip BUT book in advance!

Our tour of the Electric Mountain was amazing! I don't remember the technical details as it was back at 2012 but the concept of having electricity for a hole village from the rain water that gathered in between the mountains was extrodinary and I hope more towns, villages, countries would thing of using alternative sources of energy as this one. Also visiting the engineering area of it and been explained how it worked excited as all. Also the tour guide was such a jolie guy! If you are nearby do not miss it , pay a visit, especially if you have children, they will really enjoy it :D

An incredible place to visit. It's a hydroelectric power station built into the heart of a mountain in the middle of snowdonia, and you wouldn't know it was there.

Awesome engineering feat... The generating hall is big enough to build St Pauls Cathedral in, and still have room to spare. If you're interested in engineering, or are just curious how the whole of Wales can flick the kettle on after corrie, and not get a powercut, then it's worth a visit.

The tour is disabled accessible, but you need to be able to walk, aided or not, for about maybe 100 feet, to get from the visitor centre to the bus which takes you on the tour, which lasts about 1 1/2 hours.

There is a cafe onsite, selling the usual sort of things. All in all an enjoyable place to visit.

This place is fantastic and the backdrop that it is set in is nothing short of phenomenal and breathtaking.

Having not been here before I was suitably amazed at what this place offered, both in terms of the tour of the powerstation itself, as well as the mountains and nature that it sits in/under.

Anyone who hasn't been here before, should most defiantly make this a 'go-to' destination.

There is a vistor centre here with a gift shop, cafe as well as other bits to explore in connection with the mountains and its surrounding area, there is also outside seating for picnics.

The tour itself is brilliant, as it takes you deep into the mountain itself, whereby you get to see the inner workings of the powerstation, something that is a true spectacle in itself, especially when the generators are working and you get to see the turbines working.

The staff in the tour are very knowledable and really know what they are talking about, something that makes the tour that much more interesting.

Very cheap and good price! Tour guide and driver very friendly. The tour was very good and interesting. Yet sometimes the tour guide repeated what we'd already listened to in the film at the start.

Fascinating place to visit and learn about Pumped Storage Hydro Electric Power, the generating hall is quite awe-inspiring not just from the generating plant but also the sheer size of the cavern. Travel around the site is by coach with several stopping off places. Top tip, book early to avoid disappointment as the attraction is popular and spaces are limited.

Good excursion, you are being picked up by a buss, where they are taking you to a power station inside the mountain. There are miles of tunnels inside it. They show you and explain how the power station works and how it was built. Worth a visit. Not that expensive.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Sian the tour guide was excellent, her enthusiasm was outstanding. She was excellent in how she intereacted with the youngster's. I can at times become anxious when in confined spaces, Sian made the experience so interesting I forgot where I was so was able to thoroughly enjoy the time. My grandchildren enjoyed the experience also.

Very interesting tour - will be even better when the visitors centre re-opens - the engineering is staggering! Good value and was a nice hour or so.

This place proves a wonderful day out. It has a rack and pinion railway that goes way up into the clouds at a restaurant on top of a mount Snowdon.

Or you can get a bus deep inside the tunnel where water is stored for peak demand. Water is pumped up from the reservoir down below into the storage area cut out of the mountain then during peak times it's used to generate electricity during peak periods. What a wonderful feat of modern engineering.

Just one problem though. You don't normally have time to fit both activities into a day unless you start really early.
