Gorgeous place, beautiful grounds and some very interesting ruins, as well as the museum available at the weekend from lunchtime. Lots of information about the different parts of the palace and the history of it. Plenty of picnic benches too, perfect for a spot of lunch! Free to enter too, so even more to recommend it!!

A fascinating collection of ruins together with a museum. The guy in the museum was very enthusiastic and friendly - a great source of info.
The room itself is magnificent - huge and complex with plenty of info boards dotted around the site. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. It's free as well!

Free to enter the ruins, with parking on the adjacent station road. This Palace was quite a big concern, as you can tell from the extensive ruins.

Currently some parts are under restoration, but all still clearly visible. Information boards detail the Palace, what remains and how it would've looked.

From what a read, was a place of some significance. Hence the size of the place.

Nice place for picnic.
It's pretty small and all ruins, its free to enter, there are no facilities ...tiny museum open sometimes. Car park for about 10 cars
Free entry although I think they lock the gates overnight

Near bishops waltham village
Good for locals to walk / picnic ..kids like to run around / play on the grass / climb in between ruins.

We like to visit as this is where we had our wedding photos taken years ago !

I found this place by chance rather and it was a lovely place to visit on a sunny day. Plenty of space and wasn't busy when I went. There's a lot to draw for those who like to and there were many people doing just that.

Entry is free, so is parking but it is limited to whatever space you can find on the road alongside.

I love the palace. it is a great piece of histor. Lovely places to eat just down the road too.
It is full of signs showing what the difrent parts of the castle where and what they did. It is an amazing place to walk your dog as jt doesn't get verry muddy and the animals can have a run. It is also good for children as they can Burn of some energy as well as learn about some British history.

Little postcard town of Bishop Waltham can boast of numerous eateries and gift shops. But the ruins of the palace gives it its true romantic appeal. Spacious and uncrowded the site leaves the impression of genuine historic documentation. Very old by my standard.

An interesting Palace ruin with many historical connections. Free car parking for English Heritage.
A major bonus here is the Bishops Waltham Museum on site. Only open some afternoons (check website), but has a brilliant & varied little collection . Currently accent is on Sport, and the Curator is to be complemented on the amazing presentation - excellent balance of amuse, entertain & inform. I am tempted to creep back without the wife for a more leisurely peruse.
*A tip to the management committee - gently nag English Heritage to remind them what a fine attraction you are to the whole site.

Great place to take the family. Good parking and very interesting site. Plenty of space and benches for picnics. Nice mix of full sun and shady space to cool off and protect the little ones. Museum on site is free and very interesting. Staff are very helpful and friendly at the museum and it is very suitable for young children with plenty of activities for them to get involved like colouring in pictures and costume dress up. It's worth giving the museum, run by volunteers, a welcome donation, but only if you can afford it. My 16 month old daughter loved running around the ruins and going in the museum. Highly recommended.

Went on a Thursday during half term holidays. Notice boards are all clean and informative and the site looked well looked after. Family's were playing in the grass area and relaxing in the sun.
