The Capitana Key West

My stay at The Capitana in Key West was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a sense of comfort that made my vacation truly special. The hotel itself boasts a charming and elegant decor, capturing the essence of Key West's unique style and culture. My room was not only beautifully decorated but also offered all the modern amenities I could ask for, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay.

What really stood out at The Capitana was the attention to detail. Whether it was the perfectly manicured grounds, the pristine swimming pool area, or the delightful dining options, everything was designed to enhance the guest experience. The staff were always friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate any needs I had, providing excellent recommendations for local attractions and dining.

The location of the hotel is ideal, offering easy access to the vibrant life of Key West while still providing a peaceful and serene environment to retreat to. The sunset views from the hotel were simply stunning, adding to the unforgettable memories of my trip.

I highly recommend The Capitana to anyone visiting Key West. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or a fun-filled family vacation, this hotel offers the perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and hospitality.

January 2024. Overall a wonderful hotel. Highly recommended, despite some things that could be improved as per below.

PROS
-fantastic, heated 30 yard long pool. Perfect for swimming laps in the morning before the kids get in.
-very nice clean rooms.
-The hotel rooms have a microwave, a small refrigerator, and a Nespresso machine
-Almost every room has a view of the pool and the ocean from a private balcony with a table and 2 chairs.
-Friendly and helpful staff
-Currently there is a hot breakfast with eggs and bacon, etc. also bagels, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt
-There is a comfortable indoor sitting area for breakfast, plus additional outdoor seating with a view of the pool.
-thick good quality towels in the room, and plenty of beach towels down by the pool
-Cold bottles of water and ice available at all times
-The mandatory resort fee covers parking, free bottles of water, breakfast, basic Internet service
-kayaks and paddle boards and bicycles are available to rent at the hotel.

CONS
-Only disposable paper cups and artificial creamer are provided in the rooms. (It would be so much nicer to have real mugs and half-and-half).
-at breakfast everything is disposable and therefore primarily trash. this includes the plastic plates, the paper cups, the plastic utensils. The cereal comes in individual throwaway containers. This is a hotel chain that professes to be environmentally conscious. Providing this much waste every morning is not environmentally conscious.
-again, only artificial creamer in little pods to put in your coffee or tea. No half-and-half or whole milk.
-The location is great for the view but not so great for getting into town. You need a bicycle or car or golf cart. Luckily, these are easily rented and parking is included in your daily resort fee.
-there is Internet included with your resort fee, but fast Internet must still be purchased for $10 per day.
-there is no regular restaurant in the hotel, other than the outdoor bar by the pool. Luckily, there are many restaurants to choose from in Key West as long as you have transportation.

A very good place where take a break and have a good holiday. We spend there some days and We were delighted. Very kind staff and clean and amazing place. Nice and clean pool and the hot tub too, amazing. You can enjoy pool it till late night and the included breakfast is good for starting the day. I love the room and the views and you can rent kayak and have a fun day in the coast. The only thing I notice is that sell that hotel like first line of beach and do not have any beach is a golf with rocks and marine trees, has no sand or beach you can not swimming there just make some water sports like kayak but the pool and it's amazing and staff super kind. I enjoy my vacations there

Gorgeous place. Worth the splurge. Terrific breakfast as well. Pool area was fantastic. Entire premise was well maintained. Front staff were attentive and helpful. Rooms were amazing and so comfortable. Hop on hop off bus stop across the street so we used that rather than trying to park in town

I love Opal hotels.
We stayed in bar harbor, Portsmouth, lake George, all enjoyed us a lot.
This one in key west is no exception, service is good. Rooms are awesome. I especially love the scent they are using, nest sea salt.

Beds are clean, comfortable. Room is tidy, roomy, also with microwave and refrigerator.

My husband and I throughly enjoyed our stay here. Absolutely would recommend it to anyone and I am very picky.
The staff was kind, the pool is stunning, kayaking, paddle boarding, bikes are all available to use. The rooms were very clean and modern, which is super important to me. The view was beautiful. Starbucks is literally across the street, so convenient.
The staff serves frozen grapes to you poolside, delish! Perfect workout room, I used it everyday we were there. We will 100% be back to this property in the future. Only thing that could have made it better was if it was a kid free resort. We didn’t bring our kids but had to deal with other kids splashing around, etc..but that’s okay.

Can’t say enough good things. My family loved our stay at The Capitana. The room was spotless and smelled so good! I think this has to be the best hotel pool in Key West - there was plenty of room for all the guests and our daughter loved the fountains and all the lights at night. We also enjoyed the complementary smoothies and popsicles by the pool. The breakfast was different every day and did not disappoint. Loved having a fridge of cold water to grab on each floor. All the staff were very welcoming. My family was impressed by everything and so happy we chose to stay here. Highly recommend for anyone looking to visit Key West, especially if you’re looking for a low-key, quiet, relaxing time!

We stayed at the Capitana while we were on our Honeymoon! Everyone was very friendly, the breakfast was so good! The coffee was even better! This is the most beautiful place we've ever stayed! They also have a tiki bar outside of the hotel that is amazing!

We LOVED our stay here. The rooms were clean and beautiful as well as the pool/beach area. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the staff. I hardly leave reviews, but Lee at the front desk was such a light and was hands down the highlight of our entire stay in key west. She went above and beyond and created such a memorable vacation for us and hope to stay at this hotel again because of her!

Loved the hotel. We will definitely stay again when visiting Key West (worth the price). All rooms with Ocean view. All common areas - swimming pool, volleyball, chess, sand beach were clean, extremely well maintained and great to stay. Breakfast does not have many options but excellent quality.

The property is immaculately clean and well-maintained, and the staff was welcoming and responsive to all our inquiries. The hotel provides complimentary breakfast and offers free parking, as well as kayak and bike rentals.

The Capitana Key West is nicest resort we have ever stayed at. The entire resort felt brand new and was soo clean. Our room had an amazing view of the pool and smelled great. I highly recommend staying here if you are able to. The salt water pool was absolutely stunning. We had so much fun just floating around and taking in the amazing views and stars at night. The complimentary breakfast was very good. Be sure to try the on-site restaurant as well as the bar. The poolside service was a very nice touch to his outstanding resort.

We stayed here this past weekend and had such a wonderful experience we had to leave a review. They texted us as soon as we checked in to make sure everything met our expectations, as well as sending texts throughout the stay.

The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating. The free breakfast every morning was amazing. They even provided free drinks: lemonade, chocolate milk, apple juices, etc. along with free water bottles for your entire stay in a grab and go fridge by the ice machine.

The atmosphere and pool/hot tub/beach area were very relaxing and clean. Everyone was so friendly. The food at the hotel bar was better than any of the food we ate at restaurants in key west. The rooms were clean, with a balcony facing the water/pool that were very relaxing. Instead of a room key you have to keep up with, they give you a room bracelet that you wear to unlock your door that is waterproof (this was our favorite part).
Overall this was a very quiet hotel, even the pool area was quiet and relaxing. Games by the pool, hammock, servers that will serve you by the pool area/beach, etc. this place has it all. We will definitely be back again! Thank you!

The Capitana Key West is an outstanding hotel. We were fortunate to have a room on the 3rd floor with a stunning view of the ocean and the pool. The rooms were spacious, clean, and equipped with a balcony. Although it's about 2 miles away from downtown, there are plenty of nearby conveniences like Starbucks and Taco Bell, and each room comes with a microwave. There's ample free parking available, but they do hold a $50 deposit for each night of your stay.

One of the highlights is their fantastic pool and Jacuzzi, complete with poolside service for drinks and snacks.

The breakfast is simple, served from 8 to 10 am, but it would be great if they extended the hours a bit, especially since they close the doors promptly at 9.58 am. As a suggestion, it would be wonderful if they could offer coffee in the lobby throughout the day for guests coming and going.

Additionally, there's a 24-hour laundry facility on the 3rd floor, which is a blessing. You can purchase quarters for the machines from guest services, and there's also liquid soap available for purchase at a small shop located in the lobby. The pool closes around 10 pm.

We stayed at the Capitana for my 50th birthday party. There were 18 of us. We stayed in a cottage with another couple and loved it. The cottages are well decorated and on a canal. The hotel is very clean everywhere! Spotless pool and patio, beach area. We loved the free breakfast and coffee. The manager Mark and his staff made us feel right at home. It’s close to Duval street. We rode bikes one day and then took a lift service-Very cheap. Awesome sunsets right at the hotel. We will be back!

The Capitana is an amazing Key West hotel! I was upgraded to a gorgeous corner room on the top floor (thank you!) and had amazing views of the Gulf and the pool.
Something that could be improved upon - I noticed several high touch surfaces were not clean including the room phone headset and its cradle, around the on/off switches, and on the cabinet windows above the coffee/bar area.
I liked that the Capitana was just a little outside of the hubbub, it was quiet which made for a very relaxing and enjoyable experience!

Very nice room on the ground floor with a balcony looking out to the pool. The interior of the Capitana is definitely swank with lots of comfortable places to sit while enjoying a TV show or a full course breakfast. Eggs, bacon, french toast, cereal, fruits, low fat white milk or chocolate, coffee, juice, hard to imagine anyone not finding something to their liking. Outside areas have beach chairs, chess set that has pieces about 18 inches or more tall, an open bar and a pool table. The Capitana is on the west side of Key West which faces the Gulf of Mexico, the east side is the Atlantic ocean. Of course you want to see both sides and everything in between. The Capitana is a comfortable luxurious place to stay when in Key West.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were not only impeccably clean but also beautifully appointed. The property's tranquil location, away from the hustle and bustle, makes it a perfect choice for families. We highly recommend it.

A week long stay in August, 2023 in one of their beautiful cottages was a family vacation we will always cherish. Impeccable service from the front desk to housekeeping. Each staff member was warm, welcoming and always willing to assist/answer questions. Wonderful pool/beach/restaurant.
Everything about the Capitana Key West is 5 star!

This hotel absolutely delivers. Our room is breathtaking. The view from the room is straight out of a travel magazine. We just checked in today and are in LOVE. We have been poolside all day. Definitely stay here.
