Makawao Forest Reserve Mountain Biking Trails

One of my favorite places to hike. Great for the entire family. Arrive early because parking is limited.

Wonderful 1 hour hike! Easy cool and awesome, if you love big trees this is amazing!

Just love the peaceful feel of being in this forest. Multiple trails, quiet and serene. Plenty of dogs on the trail and kind people to say hello. Pack yourself a picnic lunch and spend the morning. It's always worth it. Check the weather first, and make sure to look at the sky, sometimes it rains.

Great hiking trails with beginner and medium levels.

This park has a 6.6 mile loop trail that is multi-purpose. Be aware that horses and mountain bikers may also be using this trail, so be sure that you stay aware of your surroundings.
This trail has a very gentle grade to it, and the trail is soft from the decaying leaves from the surrounding trees. The walk through this loop was very serene and peaceful, this is a great location to go to if you need to clear your mind. The dappled sunlight and gentle breeze through the trees created a tranquil atmosphere.
There are no soaring vistas or plunging water falls, so if that is what you are looking for, find another trail. This is just a wonderful walk through the forest.
There are also educational signs throughout the loop, stop and learn something!

Very fun jump trails and relatively easy climbs up if you pick the right trail up. Nice jump and skills areas at the bottom.

The mountain bike riding is amazing. I rented a bike from krank cycles, great service and selection. I road down Pineapple Express and it was phenomenal. Little kickers and great turns all the way down. The trail was very well maintained and the forest was beautiful. This is a must do in Maui.

A nice less crowded, less touristy hike. It’s a pretty flat 6 mile loop through a pretty forest. Great for runners.

A magical place to go hiking. Kids love it. Early is better as it is a popular place. Watch for downhill mountain bikers as this is the primary recreation in the area.

The trails are very well maintained. The climb up the east loop to the top of the pineapple express is so worth it. The ride down is very well thought out and is fill of fun features.

Makawao MTB trails are outstanding! Fun gently sloped long climbs up the east or west loops. Long flowy bermed turned downhills. Skills park is superb and well maintained. Maps are upside down, however without a direction key indicating which way is north (down on the map) so the east loop is on the left side of the map, and up on the map is up hill (south). If you like IMBA trail centers on the mainland, you'll love this place. No chair lifts, but the ride up is no problem if you are an average athletic person who wants a good workout. My 10, 12 and 13 year old could ride up and down just fine. The ride from Makawao town to the trails would be a long uphill, but I enjoyed riding to town from the trails.

Really fun! Trails very well built and nicely maintained. Beautiful scenery, shade provided by the forest. Trail head only a minute from the parking area which has a courtesy porta-potty.

Nicely maintained trail that gets you into a wonderful forest setting, approx 900 ft ascent on the full loop. Hiking, Mountain Biking and Horse trail ... great place!

Great hike, bike, horse trails. Spent a few hours up there. Will go back. Don't get lost! It can be kind of muddy, and watch out for horse droppings.
