Dr. Galpin has performed surgery on me twice. Once for a severed finger and once a partially severed tendon on my thumb. Both surgeries had excellent outcomes. He is direct in communication and it could be construed as insensitive, but the surgeries I had were both very important for the continued use of my digits and I went to him for surgery not counseling.

I have also heard since my surgeries that he travels internationally regularly to perform surgeries in areas that don't have access to this level of medical care doing pro bono work. So in response to those reviewers that find him to be rude, he is a caring doctor that backs it up with good deeds and top level surgical skills. I'll take that trade any day.

Fantastic outcomes - Dr. Galpin is a skilled surgeon and an amazing person; he's bluntly honest, gruff, concerned with assessing and diagnosing the problem, and unconcerned how it's received - he's just giving information in the form of his expert opinion. The negative reviews complained about his politically incorrect and candid demeanor, not commenting on his medical/surgical skills. Dr. Galpin performed my carpal tunnel surgery (which I didn't want) - and had a perfect outcome, without any common complications like recurrence, nerve damage, or residual symptoms - and remains perfect many years later. He later treated wrist arthritis that was interfering with my ability to work. Certain I'd need surgery, I pushed the issue - he ignored my reasoning, refused to do the surgery, and treated it with an injected medication - which fixed it immediately; I'm still pain-free after many years without any other treatment. Whether I liked how he said it or not, Dr. Galpin gave me a better result with less expense, no recovery time, and no surgical risks. Isn't that what's important?

Had surgery yesterday, no pain today, considering he had to put two pins in my 77 year old fingers plus he put a useable as possible splint and wrapping on. I agree with the above charismatic, but to the point, not always what you want to hear, but what you need to here and respect his decision, I do and will.

My gorgeous 4 year old daughter was bit in the face by the neighbors dog and ended up w chunk missing outta her cheek. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH ANY SCAR ON HER FACE. That being said. This man (Dr.Galpin) only cared about my daughter. He spoke to her directly, assuring her that nothing he did would hurt her and she did not have to be afraid. You could tell he has children as he was very good with her. He then PRECISELY took a round hunk of a wound with no skin left and sewed a straight line in with her smile line..Now...he did this 3 days ago and each time I look at her I realize how talented this man is. He still has to finish this but in my one ER meeting with him he took my little girls LIFE and made it better... So here is my message to you and advice for this Dr. SHUT UP..LISTEN..DO EXACTLY WHAT HE SAYS.....if he is not nice to you he is spending his brain power thinking of how best to fix you...Have reasonable expectations of him...he's human. And in addition to fixing YOUR problem...He is SIMULTANEOUSLY taking care of my 4 year old in his head as well as All THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO NEED HIM....So. I hope you got some clarity here...pray for my "lil Em"..and I will for your loved one as well.

As a physician of 30 yrs- I can say unequivocally this doctor is a saint. I am a visitor to the island & without hesitation after hearing my urgent medical delemma, he never asked for my insurance or ability to pay...just agreed to meet me asap at his office ( only after hearing it was a 5 hour wait in the ER). His 1st and most appropriate advice was " fly home now & see your surgeon asap- this is BAD". When I explained my situation was terminal & this was a family Bucket list Trip to celebrate, he immediately said " ok, Plan B!" Let's get you safe, healthy and able to be with ypur family. He pulled no punches, gave it to me straight-no candy coating! Thank God, thete was no time. He SAVED my life..long enough to finish this trip of a lifetime. His bedside manner was HONEST, EMPATHETIC and with only my brst intetest at heart! Anyone who crtitiques him as brusque or rude...well I have to assume you expect life to be FAIR & cater to only you. This man is GIFTED, INTELLIGENT, DEDICATED & despite the horrible read on we crossed paths, I feel honored to have met him. He is one of the Few WHITE HATS left in medicine these days!

He helped my son in the ER when his finger was shredded by a moray eel. He did a great job stitching him up and was very funny and professional.

I had the worst experience ever with Dr. Galpin. He was extremely insensitive about my problem, and was dismissive and chauvinistic. It was the worst money I have ever spent. I don't know if he's prejudiced, hates woman, or what; but his attitude was over the top RUDE.

I also had a terrible experience with Dr Galpin. He is worst person I have meet so rude. I agree that he may be good at his work but that does give him the right to act and talk to people the way he does. I would never go to him again or recomend him to anyone I know to have them treated the way I was.

It won't post if I give zero stars. Some reviews here (wish I had seen them all before I went to him) are excusing his "gruffness" while they imply that it's worth it for the practical solution they got. Not what I got. What I experienced was a dismissal of my medical need and a dismissal of my dignity. He told me that my hand problem was something I needed to accept as part of aging and was untreatable (however, I went to Dr. Young soon after and he diagnosed it properly with great professionalism and courtesy and then performed the surgery I needed - great results, no more pain and my dominant hand has worked wonderfully ever since). So, Galpin dismissed the pain I'd endured for 2 years, dismissed the visible and palpable malformation, dismissed any hope of my getting relief or improved function in my hand. He then began to attempt to presumptuously lecture me on "accepting my aging" after telling me there was nothing to be done about my inability to use my hand for most activities. I was 48 at the time. He didn't stop there. He then went on to begin patronizingly commenting on my personal style choices! How I dress or wear jewelry is none of his damn business, yet, I will assert that I was dressed *appropriately* and modestly. With extreme self discipline, I slowly stood while he was mid-insult number three and calmly stated, "clearly you are unable to help me in any way" and I walked out. Stunning and appalling ineptitude and lack of professional decorum. I warn everyone who tells me that they need a hand doctor about how this man (Galpin) failed in my experience in his office, and I gladly with gratitude refer people instead to consult with the other hand specialist I saw who gave me respect, kindness and the use of my hand back.

My wife had what she believed was a cyst on her hand. Dr. Galpin also diagnosed it as a cyst and scheduled surgery. Upon opening up the skin, he discovered that it was instead Depuytren's disease, which should have been obvious if he had been paying attention. The absolute worst treatment for Depuytren's is surgery. Needless to say, he immediately closed the surgery. He not only refused to apologize, he became defensive and belligerent when I questioned him about his diagnosis. The surgery cost us $5,000.
