Kimo's Rent-A-Car

We love Kimo’s! Everything was super easy. We rented an older model car along with surfboards. The car ran great and having the boards at the beginning of our trip was super convenient.

Love Kimos! Easy to pick up and drop off. Great customer service. I arrived early and they brought my car to me within 30 minutes. I never worry about the cars I’ve had because they have some imperfections but always run and drive great and get me wherever I choose to go on the island. Thank you!

A few years ago go I visit Maui and I rented this mini van. It was an amazing trip and I always remember. Now in coming back and I was wondering if this mini van still exists. Thanks !

Kimo is the best. Great communication , easy to understand directions, and a prompt response when asked a question. His mechanic checks your car prior to renting. If you don’t mind not having new, shiny and bright…this is the way to go. Use the $ you save for something fun on Maui.

A little different rental experience as we never met anyone while we were picking up the vehicle, very unconventional. The car was clean, ran fine, got good gas mileage. Had quite a few abrasions when we picked it up as it had been well travelled. Nice thing is the price and the point that it didn't really look like a rental. Would definitely rent from this company again. Five stars for sure!!

We come to Maui three times a year on business and always rent from Kimo’s. Due to our business, we need to rent a larger van or SUV. We haven’t been disappointed with the vehicles or the price!

The doctor I work with always rents from Kimo's, and recommended him to us. The cars are not fancy or new, but they run and get you where you need to go! The air-conditioner didn't work in our first car - we thought we were stuck with it, and even filled the gas tank. We called, and Kimo told us to bring it back and exchange it for one with working A/C. He even filled the tank up to compensate for what we had spent on the other car! Would definitely rent from him again!

Renting from Kimos is not for the faint of heart. Our car was older with lots of miles, check engine light on, but it’s a Toyota so still reliable with cold AC.
When you arrive at OGG you call a number and are told that the car is in row E or F in the parking lot and are given a code to open the lock box by the rear license plate that has the keys. The car had 1/4 tank of gas and you’re expected to bring it back with at least that much.
We chose Kimos because it is Hawaiian owned and we wanted to support the locals after the fire. We’ll use them from now on.

I had an excellent experience with Kimos. The car was fun to drive around on the island. It had personality:) The staff responded quickly to questions I had. I will use them again in the future.

We rented an older truck so we could haul our boards and other beach toys and not break the bank!
(Did the age of the truck hinder us? No! like any older vehicle, it had its own age spots and quirks!)

I highly recommend Kimo’s and will continue to tell friends to rent with them as well.

Got off the plane it was right where you said it was going to be in the parking lot easy to get to everything was easily understandable from your messages and how to do everything. Aloha All, I am a 10+ times Kimo's renter. You can't beat Kimo's for price, convenience or service. My friends have to go on the stupid airport train and then wait at a rental car counter. I just walk across the street and simply drive away for 1/2 the price, and then just drop the car back off in the lot when I am done. We also do a lot of remote hiking and the cars fit right in with the locals.

Best of all, we've never had a car with bad AC, eh Bruddah.

We rented a car for our 5 day trip. Staff was extremely accommodating for our last minute requests and modifications, and we loved all the add ons available such as the surfboard, beach chairs, boogy boards, cooler and snorkeling gear! Will be using them again for our next stay!

I am so impressed with my first experience with Kimo's. Really happy to support a local family business on Maui instead of the Rental Car Giants that are usually a circus.

Randomly, I got a SUV, a nice Lexus RS 350 as my rental car from them and the AC was not super cold. Because I am older, I really like cold AC. The owner drove from his home after closing and met me and switched out the SUV for a van and didn't charge anything extra. He won a customer for life!

Visiting Maui is expensive! What a welcome relief to not have to pay a fortune for a week's ride around the island. Took it all the way to Hana. We've used Kimo's before and it is a bargain!

Mahalo, Kimo's! AVOID THE INSANE LINEUPS AT THE MAIN DEALERSHIPS! We had a great experience with for our April 2019 visit. Called as soon as we landed, got the location in the OGG parking lot, and the minivan was there exactly as described. Easy lock box instructions. A little dated and rusty, but that was expected. No need for a brand new vehicle in Maui. It got us around the island safely, and that's all we cared about! Perfect for the four of us. Very easy drop off and super friendly service to the airport. Will definitely use Kimo's again on our next visit.

Second time customer. Had a small issue and easily switched cars the next day. Service was great. Cars are a long way from perfect but the price is worth that to us. If you are a fussy person you will not be happy. We will definitely use them again.

Best car rental experience I've ever had.

On our recent trip to Maui my wife and I rented from the older fleet. I'll admit I was a little skeptical at first since I have only ever rented from a major rental agency. I had never heard of a rental agency renting older cars, but I had always thought that renting a brand new car seemed excessive. All I need on vacation is a car to get me around. I don't need a brand new car for that.

The Kimo's system is excellent. You fill out all the forms online before your trip. You call a phone number when you arrive, which tells you where your car is parked in the general airport parking lot (just pay the parking lot fee --$13) and a code for a lockbox located on the car that holds the key. Enter the code, get the key, and drive away. This means no waiting for a shuttle to a rental car depot, no waiting in long lines just to be served, and no sales people trying to up-sell you into driving a car you don't want or guilt you into buying insurance you don't need. So much less hassle and wasted time, which means more time enjoying your vacation.

Returning the car is even easier. Just drive to Kimo's shop by the airport, and an employee will drive you to the airport in your car, which means no need to unload all your luggage and load it into a shuttle. Also no lengthy return procedure. Just drive to Kimo's and have someone take you to the airport less than 5 minutes away. It couldn't be easier.

We ended up with a Suzuki SX4 (2006-13 --not sure the exact year) with 163K miles on it. The car had a few cosmetic issues, mainly just some cracked exterior trim. Mechanically, the car was solid and we never had any reliability issues. Really only two minor problems to note. When the car first started up after sitting the power-steering pump would moan at low speeds for the first few miles of driving. Once it warmed up it would go away. Secondly, the A/C was not great. It was averaging around 88 degrees on our trip and the A/C simply would not get cold if the car was sitting in traffic. At night or on the highway moving at speed it was able to perform much better. These issues were certainly not something that detracted enough from our experience to reduce my rating from 5 stars, but in the interest of a complete review I feel obligated to mention them

For a 10 day rental on Maui our total rental bill was under $300. Simply unbeatable. I am not sure why rental agencies like Kimo's aren't in more places.

As usual, renting a car through Kimo's is a positive experience. It's true that the cars are older, so the handling and bells and whistles might be lacking, but we've always chosen "newer" cars, and have felt safe and comfortable. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Communication with Kimo is easy, and he is always kind and helpful. This was our 4th time renting with Kimo's and we plan to do it again next year :)Thumbs up!
