Dollar Car Rental

I was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional customer service at this rental car agency on 11/17/23. I have a go-to place but for some reason I missed it.
Despite my initial crankiness, the staff/lady remained patient and understanding, ensuring my needs were met but to no avail since no other car was available. Although, I must say, the car is in mint condition, so, they redeemed themselves with this one! From the efficient check-in process to the helpful recommendations, every interaction was handled with professionalism and warmth. Her dedication to customer satisfaction truly turned my experience around. I would highly recommend this agency to anyone in need of reliable and friendly car rental services.

My rental experience was great! I had booked a car through Expedia prior to arriving and I used Dollar's check-in service to upload my documents and confirm the registration. I spent less than 5 minutes at the counter. I definitely spent more time deciding which car I wanted to take.

The one downside was a lack of variety. I wanted a smaller hatchback but Dollar only had Chevy Sparks. My only other choice was a Nissan Versa, which ended up being a better option for people riding in the back.

Also, I tried out a couple of the Sparks but I couldn't connect to Android Auto, even with a USB cable. The Versa was an older model that didn't have Android Auto either, but it was still more comfortable to drive.

Dropping off the car was super easy. I pulled up, the attendant scanned my receipt, and I was done. I was charged the amount quoted in my booking. A very smooth process overall. I would use Dollar again on a future visit!

Staff was very friendly. The lines were long. We had to wait almost an hour before it was our turn. The lady said that it was crowded on weekends + holidays. Service is quick and easy. They are quite organized too which made things convenient for us.

Rented a car here for two weeks in Maui. Painless check in process with a very short line. Drop off was dead simple - followed the rental car signs, parked, left the keys inside and walked my luggage to the gate. Got an email about 30 minutes later with the fees that were explained to me upon check-in - no surprises.

I was worried given the bad reviews but I think it’s just hiccups from the huge travel surge over the summer and reopening pains. As of October 2021 this was a great car rental experience.

Everything was smooth from pick up to drop off. I seriously couldn’t have had a better rental experience. Not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I experienced none of that. Looks like either they’ve made changes for the better or they’re are many unreasonable people out there or possibly a little bit of both. This was the best car rental experience I’ve ever ever had.

Great experience and customer service. Was there on a Monday, so maybe not the issues identified during the weekends. Jacqueline was very helpful, friendly and professional. Out the door in a 4x4 jeep with the top down in 30 minutes. Highly recommend.

Good, cheap and efficient service

My mom, sister and I used dollar car rental for our trip to Maui, Hawaii. When doing our research we found Dollar to be the most affordable. When we arrived after our 11 hour flight to the car rental area, there was one long line for Dollar. All the other car rental companies had little to no line. We stood on line for at least an hour and a half until we reached the desk. The staff member was pleasant and welcoming. However, be careful. They will try to convince you to upgrade and will bargain with you. She gave all of these different reasons to convince us to upgrade. After we denied all of her bargains, she ended up telling us that it’s possible we could end up with an upgrade anyway since they were running low on the basic ones (go figure).

We paid and she sent us to the lot to pick out our car. We ended up with a Nissan Sentra which we really liked. The roads in Maui seemed to be in pretty good shape (better than the potholes back home in NJ) it is the off the road fruit stands, beaches etc. that are a little more rough. We ended up getting a flat tire on the road to Hana when we pulled into a plantation, which was a little scary. Luckily a kind stranger put the doughnut on for us. On our way back we called Dollar as soon as we got service and told them what happened. She located the nearest location (the airport) and told us to return the car and exchange it for a new one, no charge. (You aren’t supposed to ride on a spare tire longer than 24 hours) the exchange and return were quick and easy. We ended up choosing the same car in a different color. I felt more secure and it was nice to get a nice clean car after our adventures.

*Also when we originally picked up our car we got the basic package for the insurance. This proved to be sufficient.

Overall, Dollar is a great option for a good deal. Just know before you go!

We booked and prepaid our rental car 4 months before our trip through Expedia. We were really worried it may not be honored because of the car rental shortage in Hawaii, but we had no problem even the busy Memorial Day Weekend ! Our car was there waiting for us to pick up. I asked the associate if they had to turn people away on that day, and they said only people who walked in with no reservations. Checkin in was very smooth. The car had a bunch of scratches but it looks like they all do here, probably because most people head to the very narrow Road to Hana. Just make sure you fill out the car report before leaving the rental lot to make sure those don't get charged to you and you will be good.

Great experience renting for a week! Peter was exceptional and even shared some local history. Car rental was fine and we had no issues :)

Peter was super friendly! There was only 2 people working the desk and they moved the line very quickly. The lady when we went to return our car seemed annoyed with everyone, but I'm sure that's just what you get traveling to a high tourist area.

Arrived pretty late flight and was able to get a great car, the car is well taken care of. We first bought a full tank but we got in the car and had barely 1/3 so when we returned it 4 days later, we asked about it and received the money back. Thank you and good bus transportation. No complaints, long lines but thats expected with Hawaii

I also wanted to make a special shout out to sale associate Nalani. I had a lot of difficulty with my car rental booking, and she was able to provide assistance with care and kindness. She took extra steps to see that my needs were taken care of and she had an amazing attitude throughout. I would have never gotten to see road to Hana safely without her. Thank you Nalani and dollar rental!

We had a great experience renting car from Thrifty. Only inconvenience was when we returned vehicle, staff wanted to charge us extra hour fee but it was removed after we spoken to the management. Car was clean and new as described online. Lines can get long but we were lucky with tree people in front of us.

Fast and courteous service! We were the first and only ones in line. Offered a free upgrade from mid missed to standard. Kia Optima was new, clean and great

Was able to pick from the lot and everything was easy on the return.

Was sceptical at first reading all those reviews, but I never received such an amazing service. Car was clean, less than 10k miles and on time. I didn't feel pushed to buy any kind of insurance or to upgrade. Return took less than 2 minutes and they are very easy going and honest on littles scratches Don't let them discourage you, you'll miss out on great fares :)

The shuttle is super efficient and the drivers' kind. The water they gave us at our arrival was priceless. The staff fast, professional and helpful in every way possible. The cars good and very fuel efficient, and since the gas price in Hawaii is so high it was a good surprise.

Good experience. Booked via AMEX, arrived 30 mins before preselected pickup time, had almost no wait. Woman at counter offered additional options (insurance, prefueling) which I denied without her being pushy. Had the opportunity to inspect vehicle and note damages beforehand. Took about 15 minutes upon entering building. Dropped car off an hour before preselected time in which they did a quick check around the vehicle and asked me to pull into a slot while handing me my recipet. Very smooth and easy process all around, would recommend.

Friendly shuttle drivers, got a great deal on an suv. It was pretty rough going back to my old car after driving the Ford explorer! Returning the car was absolutely painless, took less than 5 minutes including hopping on the shuttle. I would definitely use them again if I'm lucky enough to go back to Maui!
