A fascinating dedication to admirable principles. I think about Sun Yat-sen often and like to visit this park while on the island.

You’ll experience an overwhelming sense of peace and calm when visiting this park. it’s always quiet there, usually just yourself and a few chickens. Sit on a table and contemplate the silence while taking in the breath taking views of Maui. Go in peace.

Staying at Maalaea Banyans, thanks to the Assistant Manager there(Buzz) I wouldn't have known about the significance of this place. Very cool. We purchased Pizza and some crab cakes (to-go) from Kula Bistro, came around 5:45pm to check out the park, and watch the sunset. Love the statues, plaques and shi-shi dogs, they remind me of when I was stationed in Okinawa. Chickens are or were everywhere, not sure they are always here but we didn't mind them at all. Few people were getting annoyed by them. There are 4 tables scattered throughout. Hope you enjoy the photos.🥰🤙🏼

This was an interesting find on the way to the South Coast of Maui. Nice to see some Chinese history. No bathrooms so be aware of that as you keep going south…which will be more remote and the roads might be worse. Happy to see this park and the beautiful views it offered as well!

Sun Yat-sen was China’s Gandhi—a visionary, a leader driven not by power but by principles, a humbly born individual whose ideas and convictions changed human history. After nine failed rebellions he managed to topple the corrupt Qing Dynasty and establish the first Chinese republic.

And he was a local guy, to some extent, whose Western-styled revolutionary ideas hatched in Hawaii while he studied at Iolani and Punahou Schools.

Between rebellions he often took refuge at his older brother’s ranch in Kamaole, Kula. His family found shelter there on the slopes of Haleakala

May peace prevail on Earth - is what the sign says in Chinese, it's translated on the other side. Yeah, they come to snuff the rooster, no we ain't gonna die!!! Good song Bros, amirite?

Nice monument and ends up being a 10-15 minute stop if you want to read the actual monument.

A very nice, tranquil park on the road down towards Ulupalakua. Nice grounds, interesting sculptures and amazing views of the ocean around South Maui.

A very surprised stop on our road to Hana guided tour. Never knew the Hawaiians had so much respect for the Father of the Chinese Republic.

Quick pit stop on the road to “back side” of Hana if you’re doing it in reverse. Quick drive from Kula as well. Memorial to the founder of modern China and his brother, who was one of the biggest landowners in Maui! Easy to find and convenient parking.

Not as run down as expected and definitely not as run down as the sun yat sen park in Honolulu, that one is a real disaster! Anyway this gets 5 stars as a stop along the road to stretch your legs, see some views and learn some history. Locals also like hanging out in the parking lot.

Cool place to learn about the history of sun yat sen and his brother in Hawaii. It’s understated and out of the way, so it feels very calm when you visit. Good place for a picnic as there are multiple tables around the area. Definitely worth a stop if you’re on your way to or from Hana, and even worth making a special trip for if you’re someone who likes history! There are several detailed signs and sculptures that give context on the history of both China and Hawaii.

A spectacular place to sit down, eat dinner and watch the sunset! The park is small but very peaceful with a few cool statues. It has a nice vibe up here and is a great place to just cruise.

It's 5/5 as a monument to Chinese history. We see the father of modern China overlooking the seas into the distance. If you know the history of Sun Yat-Sen, this fits his aspirational dreams. A dreamer and visionary looking towards something distant that many couldn't see in his lifetime. He led against oppression and advocated for freedom and unity. Please set aside modern geopolitical tension aside and appreciate this monument to a figure that many can agree is worthy of respect. If not him, his ideals.

No restrooms in this park, so plan accordingly. A meaningful visit to anyone that revered Sun Yat-Sen or is into Chinese history.
